Bob's Guidelines For Success

Bob's Guidelines For Success

This week I found out that my mentor Bob Fox would soon be available for employment. This person along with many others still remain very influential in my thinking around recruiting. Bob always emphasized the importance of being service oriented and truthful regarding the positions that we offer with an emphasis on matching the right candidate with the needs of the project.

Those of you interested in snagging him up. I have linked his resume here: https://goo.gl/E7XJ7w

BOB’s Guidelines For Success

  1. None of us is as smart as all of us.
  2. Better to retrain to Retain vs. Remove.
  3. A job poorly filled is worse than one not filled at all.
  4. Those who fail to plan, plan to fail.
  5. Improvise, Adapt, And Overcome.
  6. Paper Trail Rule- if you have enough paper, they can hit the trail.
  7. The only thing you can count on is change.
  8. Flexibility is the key to success. (flexible, fluid, gaseous, sub atomic)
  9. Expect what you Inspect, the number one job of supervision is to Follow-Up.
  10. Need Help - Ask.
  11. Don't forget the lessons you learned.
  12. If you are not having fun, you are not doing it right.
  13. A new hire is like a fish - once you get their attention, hook them, and get them in the boat. If it don't??work out throw them back before they stink up your job
  14. Under commit and over deliver.
  15. Never deviate from the truth, what you say is all they have.
  16. Take care of the people and they will take care of the client.
  17. You must be fair and consistent, and do what you say you are going to do.
  18. Always fill the position with the best qualified candidate, if the one you are talking to is not it, then keep looking.
  19. Put yourself in their shoes- would you work at that job for that money?
  20. People do not do what we ask them to do because they don’t know or don't care. Neither one of those conditions is their fault, it is yours.
  21. Do not touch employees in an inappropriate manner. “If you bust the bubble, you are asking for trouble”. Everyone has personal space that should never be violated.
  22. Look for ways to improve the job, the environment, the benefits.
  23. ?It is not about money in the long term, it is about appreciation and accomplishment.
  24. Show the people who work with and for you their value every day.
  25. Find ways to recognize great stuff – catch someone doing good!
  26. Respect everyone (including yourself).
  27. See others the way God sees them.
