Bob McGill--Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club: Official Centennial Publication
When I got drafted way back in the day in 1980, it was pretty special. Toronto was an Original Six team, and I was very privileged in my career to play on a couple of Original Six teams – Toronto and in Chicago, too. But to be a Maple Leaf, a Canadian team with a storied history and all those Stanley Cups in their history of the team, it was really cool. And for me to leave the Edmonton area and come out to Toronto and play for a Canadian team where it meant so much to the fans and everybody across the country quite frankly, was pretty special.
Having been drafted by the Leafs and played over 300 games for them, and now, back in the fold here working for Leafs TV, and work with the Maple Leafs and the Marlies, I really feel like I’m part of the fabric of the team. And I feel really privileged to do what I do because I’ve got that passion for the game of hockey, but certainly, a passion for the Toronto Maple Leafs. It would be an awesome thing one day to see a Stanley Cup being raised here in Toronto, and it’d be great to be a part of it.
