???? Twin Vee PowerCats announces 2025 launch of revamped BayCat series

The Florida-based manufacturer, distributor and marketer of power sport boats, Twin Vee PowerCats Co, has announced plans to introduce a redesigned 22-foot BayCat boat in early 2025. The new model will be available in two versions: the 220 BayCat GFX2 and the 220 BayCat STX.

The 220 BayCat, measuring 22 feet in length, with a nine-inch beam and 16-inch draft, features Twin Vee’s signature twin catamaran hull design. It is engineered to be easily towable and suitable for various water conditions, from tight channels and flats to offshore use on calm days.

The boat will be powered by a single outboard motor ranging from 140 to 200 horsepower. Standard features include a fishable deck, 25-gallon transom livewell, bow storage, raw water washdown, and a 36-gallon fuel capacity. Additional options vary between the GFX2 and STX models, potentially including bow cushion seating, underwater lights, a nine-inch multifunction display with sonar capabilities, and a T-top with rod holders.

In July, the firm appointed Karl Zimmer as the new president of Twin Vee to enable Visconti – the previous president alongside his CEO role – to dedicate efforts to expanding the business.

Last month, Twin Vee appointed Carol Hindsman as its new chief technology officer, overseeing the development of Twin Vee’s online marketplace designed to streamline the boat-buying process.

The launch of the redesigned 220 BayCat represents Twin Vee’s effort to expand its product line and cater to a broader range of recreational boating enthusiasts. The changes in leadership and the new models are expected to contribute to the company’s growth strategy in the power sport boat market.

?? Volvo Penta introduces Joystick Surfing for wake boats?

Volvo Penta has launched Joystick Surfing, a new feature for wake boats that builds upon its existing Joystick Driving technology. The system is designed for use with Volvo Penta’s Twin Forward Drive on gasoline-powered boats and integrates with the Watersports Control display to enhance the user’s experience in Surf Mode.

The news comes just weeks after Volvo Penta announced the release of its new helm-to-propeller hybrid-electric package, a fully integrated system that includes advanced drive modes and intelligent features.

Volvo Penta says its new Joystick Surfing feature allows the operator to control the boat without needing the steering wheel or throttle. This feature provides precise, single-hand manoeuvring, offering enhanced control at both lower and higher speeds. It is particularly useful for managing wake surfing conditions.

The system is designed to work in Surf Mode, where users can select their surf profile and activate the joystick to begin. It provides improved manoeuvrability at lower speeds, with additional control over steering, throttle, and gear during regular cruising.

The feature aimed at both new and seasoned watersports enthusiasts. According to Volvo Penta, it provides greater control and precision in wake boating, allowing operators to manoeuvre without engaging traditional controls.

Bering adds

The system is designed with ergonomics in mind, featuring a joystick positioned on the armrest of the driver’s seat. This placement enables the operator to make course corrections easily while remaining aware of the surfer. The system features safety features such as an automatic neutral position if the joystick is released in reverse.

Joystick Surfing is paired with Volvo Penta’s Twin Forward Drive system, which offers manoeuvrability, quick acceleration and powerful thrust. This technology enables the system to be applied to larger boats, which can accommodate more passengers and create larger wakes.

In July, Volvo Penta expanded its range of remanufactured drivelines for marine customers. The new offer extends the remanufacturing range of products to include complete engines D13, D8, D4 and D6 and the complete Inboard Performance System (IPS) range.

?? RS Sailing introduces new entry-level catamaran: The RS Cat12

RS Sailing has launched the RS Cat12, a new catamaran designed to simplify multihull sailing for beginners, training centres and families. The boat fills a market gap for an accessible entry point into catamaran sailing, complementing the company’s existing RS Cat16 and Cat14 models.

The RS Cat12 features several design elements for ease of use and safety. These include a furling job, reefing mainsail and mast head float. Front grab handles and kick-up rudders facilitate launching and beaching, while the RS-patented hull gully allows for easy lifting of the entire boat.?

Built for durability, the hull is constructed from rotomolded PE1. Alex Newton Southon, co-CEO of RS Marine Group, highlights its innovative design: “The built-in, detachable and replaceable design – which sees the fenders snap in to the overall shape of the hull – is a unique innovation on the RS CAT12.”

The boat’s design emphasises comfort and versatility. It features concave seating on the hull and a trampoline seating area, accommodating up to three sailors. The self-draining design adds to its user-friendly nature. A single trapeze can be included as an optional extra.?

Early sea trials have yielded positive feedback. Nico Honor, founder of RS Sailing France, describes the RS Cat12 as “a cheerful catamaran to sail” with good buoyancy, smooth steering and a balance of performance and forgiveness. Liam Willis, technical assistant at RS Marine Group, noted its lightweight nature and quick assembly, predicting its popularity among training centres.
