Bo Menkiti to Receive First BirdSEED Flock Award for Housing Justice

Housing justice grant provider birdSEED announced it will award the first Flock Award for Housing Justice to Bo Menkiti. The award will be presented to Bo at Woolly Mammoth Theater on Tuesday, September 26 at birdSEED’s first DC community celebration event at 6 pm.?

Bo Menkiti was chosen by the birdSEED National Board because of his leadership and support of housing justice. Bo is the Founder and CEO of The Menkiti Group, an integrated real estate services company dedicated to transforming lives, careers, and communities through real estate. The Menkiti Group is focused on strengthening neighborhoods through the strategic development, management, and disposition of real estate in urban markets and on delivering the power of home through its brokerages and affiliates.

Over the past 19 years, The Menkiti Group has invested over $360MM in emerging urban neighborhoods in DC and Massachusetts, worked on the development of over 3.8MM SF of real estate, and assisted over 2,000 families in purchasing their first homes.

In addition to presenting the Flock Award to Bo Menkiti, birdSEED will screen? The Road to Justice followed by a discussion with Executive Producer and birdSEED Board member André Robert Lee. The film is a testament to the power of place and direct experience in creating transformational change. It is also a call to action.

BirdSEED is a DC-based not-for-profit making no-strings attached down payment grants to Black, Indigenous and persons of color purchasing their first homes in the DC and Philadelphia regions. In the DC area, birdSEED has partnered with the Greater Washington Community Foundation to implement its grant program. BirdSEED helps close the racial wealth gap by supporting historically disadvantaged communities achieve home ownership.?
