BMW X5 M50i Review — The True Beamer Of SUVs
In the olden days, SUVs were considered workhorses, primarily used for hauling large loads with minimal emphasis on performance and creature comforts on the inside. However, in recent years, the entire concept of SUVs has evolved. In our BMW X5 M50i review, we will explore just how much it has changed.
BMW aimed to create a performance version of its luxury X5 mid-size SUV, drawing inspiration from the M division, a brand that has produced several successful performance versions over the years. Adding to the lineup of high-performance models is the M50i variant, positioned as the top-of-the-line version in the X5 M lineup.
Exterior Design
BMW's M versions are renowned for their aggressive looks and sharp lines, providing a sporty stance. Despite being an SUV, the BMW X5 M50i boasts a chiselled front end, incorporating signature elements such as the iconic kidney grille and the distinctive double-barrel LED DRLs.
Moving to the side, it features large 22-inch alloy wheels and continues to feature the sport and angular body lines. Finally, the rear profile of the M50i continues the sporty character with the dual-exhaust tips.
Interiors
As a luxury SUV, BMW has given the X5 M a complete leather and brushed aluminium treatment, striking a balance between sporty and luxury appeal. However, the scales tip towards the sporty side with features like contrast stitching, paddle shifters, and a large chunky steering wheel. We would have wished for a flat-bottom design on the steering wheel.
Technology
The BMW X5 M50i comes well equipped for the price, featuring two 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment. Additionally, it incorporates the brand's latest BMW iDrive system, providing AI assistance to help customize the car according to the driver's preferences.
