The BMC Elections provided a comprehensive mandate to former allies Shiv Sena and BJP, who had fought the elections on their own without forming a pre-poll coalition. GRID91's predictions about the elections were almost accurate, within the margin of error and had forecast a massive victory for the 'saffron' allies in Mumbai. While the Shiv Sena was triumphant in Mumbai as the single-largest political party in the BMC, the BJP managed to practically triple its seats tally from 2012. Further, the BJP also won 10 out of the 12 municipal corporations that went to polls, excluding Mumbai and Thane. In Mumbai, the issues of the election of the mayor and chairmanship of the powerful BMC standing committee remain pivotal and should be discussed during talks that have been supposedly initiated between the BJP and Shiv Sena for a prospective alliance. Furthermore, parties such as the INC have surprisingly indicated their willingness to provide outside support to the Sena to keep the BJP out of power in the BMC, With these developments it remains interesting to see whether the Sena will join hands with its former alliance partner or signal the formation of an unheard alliance that might prove historical in political spectrum of Mumbai.
