What?

Bluetooth is a technology standard used to enable short-range wireless communication between electronic devices.

When?

In 1998 Ericsson assembled a consortium of computer and electronics companies, known as the Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group), to bring the technology to the real world.

Why named as Bluetooth?

Bluetooth is named for Harald I Bluetooth, the 10th-century Danish king who unified Denmark and Norway. Jim Kardach chose the name to imply that Bluetooth similarly unites communication protocols.

Key statistics:

• Annual Bluetooth device shipments worldwide stood at 4.9 billion units in the year 2022.
• Yearly shipments are forecast to reach 7.6 billion units in the year 2027.

Bluetooth?has evolved through many versions:

Bluetooth Classic: Wireless gadgets conforming to Bluetooth versions 1.0 through 3.0 are called as Bluetooth Classic devices. It streams data over 79 channels in the 2.4GHz unlicensed industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) frequency band.

• Bluetooth Classic is mainly used to enable wireless audio streaming

E.g.: wireless speakers, headphones, and in-car entertainment systems

Bluetooth Low Energy?(LE)/ BLE/ Bluetooth Smart: ??Bluetooth version 4.0 and later versions, the Bluetooth protocol was updated for very low power operation. It Transmits data over 40 channels in the 2.4GHz unlicensed ISM frequency band.

• Bluetooth Smart devices are Bluetooth low energy-based devices that communicate with Bluetooth Smart Ready devices.

E.g.: access control and door entry, blood pressure monitors, smart watches

Observation:

When you purchase Bluetooth Smart device, you should know that this will work with other devices bearing the Bluetooth Smart Ready logo, but not with devices only regular Bluetooth classic logo.????? ????????????????????????????

Bluetooth Smart devices:

There is another category of devices called dual-mode devices. They support both Bluetooth classic and BLE and can communicate with both classic and Bluetooth Smart devices.
