Bluestaq Awarded First Healthcare Contract to Advance Digital Front Door Initiative in Partnership with Defense Health Agency and Defense Innovation

Colorado Springs, Colorado, December 10, 2024 - Bluestaq has been selected to prototype the Defense Health Agency Data Fabric (DHA-Data Fabric) as part of the Defense Health Agency’s (DHA) Digital Front Door (DFD) initiative. The DHA-Data Fabric will enhance the usability of DHA’s existing health data repository, the MHS Information Portal (MIP), by ingesting, indexing, and cataloging MIP data to provide streamlined access and integration capabilities for downstream DFD applications. @Bluestaq’s technology will support DHA’s vision of a more connected, efficient, and patient-centered healthcare system.

The Military Health System (MHS) faces critical challenges in sustaining medical force readiness and delivering high-quality care to its 9.5 million beneficiaries. Issues such as high-cost service utilization, workforce shortages, and outdated technology have strained the system’s effectiveness. Recognizing these challenges as a national security priority, DHA is investing in patient-centered technologies to enhance care delivery and operational readiness.

In partnership with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), DHA launched the transformative DFD program, a digital healthcare management tool designed to streamline the patient and provider experience. The DFD program aims to integrate or replace existing systems, promote a value-based, integrated healthcare model, and facilitate direct healthcare access through telehealth and other digital solutions. Bluestaq was awarded a prototype contract through DIU’s competitive Area of Interest (AOI) request alongside BDR Solutions, Clearstep, and Ernst & Young.

"At Bluestaq, we are proud to partner with DIU, DHA, and our fellow awardees—BDR Solutions, Clearstep, and Ernst & Young—to launch this vital initiative,” said Dr. Seth Harvey, CEO of Bluestaq. “Our work on the Defense Health Agency Data Fabric will help modernize healthcare data accessibility and enhance care delivery for servicemembers, their families, and healthcare providers. This mission holds special significance for us, as many of our team members are veterans, National Guard members, and reservists. Supporting this effort is both a professional and personal commitment for our team.”

Bluestaq’s involvement in DFD program began with a 12-month prototyping phase launched in September. As part of this effort, Bluestaq will pilot its DHA-Data Fabric prototype at selected DHA venture sites, impacting approximately 260,000 beneficiaries across five Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs). If successful, Bluestaq’s solution will have the opportunity to scale across the entire DHA enterprise, reaching up to 9.5 million beneficiaries at MTFs worldwide.

Congratulations, my prediction…this is only the first step in Bluestaq making life better and medical record access easier for millions

So you and the partners are improving and streamlining the health care access experience for both military patients and providers by, among other things, making mountains of siloed data useful?
