The Future Of Banking: By 2030, Banking Will Be Invisible, Connected, Insights-Driven, And Purposeful?

Customer-oriented is no longer a market differentiation. According to Forrester, banks need to do more — and become customer-obsessed. In BlueSoft, we won't provide you with a managed service change. But we can provide you with managed services for technology strategy & delivery, so your full focus can be on customer obsession — and we can help you shape new business strategies with technology insights. ?

Expert's Voice:?

Just like IT experts should not focus only on technology, but on the business they serve instead — banks are expected to focus on customers, not just processes or payments. Forrester forecasts that customer orientation is going to be a strategic advantage factor till 2030. This will require advanced analytics and solutions (also powered by AI), which will support banks with customer understanding and serving. Within transformation around the true understanding of customers — technology will became a crucial factor. So it's good to have the right partners within this journey — who are business-oriented, who are not afraid to take responsibility for delivery, and who have skills & managed services for co-building your strategy. In BlueSoft, we have such offers for banks — starting from IT Strategy oriented around value for customers, through IT Operating Model, Teams organization, architecture — through Data Governance and Advanced Analytics — ending up with DevSecOps processes & technologies shift into self-serving mode. In simple words - we will make your Bank IT ready for a change.?

LLMs don’t do formal reasoning — and that is a HUGE problem?

LLMs don't do formal reasoning — the newest AI research from Apple indicates, what is inevitable: LLMs (and GenAI in general) are moving from a peak of inflated expectations to a trough of disillusionment. Apple proved, what many architects, software engineers, and business stakeholders felt already — that LLMs are not... humans. And probably won't be able to replace strategists, architects, engineers, or — in general — white-collar workers soon (which was a popular opinion right after GPT-3 was released). The question remains though — what are the LLMs good for then? ?

Expert's Voice:?

How can we generate business value from LLMs for our Customers? And how can it build a competitive advantage for a software company? Those are the questions, which we have asked ourselves since 2022. We have dedicated four teams of engineers to answer it since then. Apple's research is not a surprise, because we noticed this lack of formal reasoning pretty soon in our journey. Luckily, today we have some answers — so let me summarize our team findings and already proven patterns on how to use LLMs even without their ability to do formal reasoning:?

#1: LLMs supports us to understand, develop & operate Legacy Applications. Our ModernAIze project proved, that having an LLM assistant, composed around a multi-agent approach, speeds up troubleshooting, log analysis, error handling, and code/documentation navigation for legacy systems. ModernAIze, powered by AI, is our solution supporting not only the Legacy Application lifecycle but also allowing us to migrate such systems. ?

#2: It's not a surprise that LLMs won't replace software designers, thus to design a system — you need to master the reasoning ("create me an app, which..." — does not work well for enterprise-grade systems). But it can speed up new application creation if we lead the analysis and decomposition right. We have invited LLMs to our Minimum Awesome Product workshops — a structured approach for prioritizing and designing MVPs & software application strategies within four days with engineers and business stakeholders. We record it, transcribe, and feed it to LLMs — and it helps us in building product backlog, looking for gaps, and creating functional and non-functional requirements. What took us two weeks, we do within days now. ?

#3: LLMs are a good choice as internal applications, supporting knowledge management - and thus, boosting employees' productivity. For multiple customers, we fed models with company data, and implemented access rules, monitoring, and cost reduction techniques - and now we have case studies and happy customers not wasting time researching for information, but asking for chats instead. But what we also discovered within the process is - RAG delivery is not easy. You need to index your data, you need to bootstrap environments, you need to fine-tune models etc... so we decided to create a Platform simplifying it. At first, it was used internally for our delivery, but now - it's our new product, Starboost for AI. We also discovered that you can't scale RAGs delivery without Platform Engineering.?

Steer Between Debt And Delay With Platform Engineering?

Platform Engineering as a… remedy to applications' technical debt, thus unblocking fast flow? It may not be the first benefit that comes to your mind when thinking about Platform Engineering's value, but this article made us think. Reducing technical debt "by design" is one of the biggest—yet rarely mentioned—benefits of adopting Platform Engineering. The Forrester article explains it perfectly. ?

Expert's Voice:?

When I found Forrester's article, I came to realize that when talking about Platform benefits, I missed the technical debt reduction. And I came to realize that it's a huge benefit, and applying Platform Engineering principles is... well, brilliant. Why? ?
Let's start with one of the biggest reasons for technical debt - which is rush. Business goals need to be achieved, so engineers need to trade between time and software quality sometimes. But this time limitation is often not a close-deadline thing, but a poor work organization between core-IT and application developers. If we have 3 months to release the application but wait 2 months for the environment, we have only 1 month left for development. Sounds like a recipe for a lot of technical debt. Here is how adopting Platform Engineering addresses this problem:?

#1: First, thanks to 15 minutes of onboarding, instead of 1 month of development, we are going to have a full 3 months. ?

#2: Second, thanks to the simplification & self-service of DevSecOps tooling & processes, we don't need to make shortcuts - because the technical areas where those shortcuts could have been done are already automated. ?

The platform allows us to have an environment, that is "by-design" prone to too much technical debt. Of course, it won't solve the shortcuts in code & business logic of the application, but all the rest can be free from technical debt thanks to Platform Engineering.?

Initial States in Cloud Migration?

According to the CTO of Facets.cloud, cloud migration is prevalent in today’s tech companies, and understanding the existing infrastructure is crucial for planning a successful migration (whether from on-premise to cloud or between cloud providers). He emphasizes the need to customize the strategy based on an organization’s initial infrastructure state:?

1. Complete Automation with Modernized Infrastructure as Code (IaC) is used throughout, and systems are fully automated with modern practices. Existing tools must be adapted to the new cloud environment. Platform engineering should be leveraged to streamline the migration process, ensuring long-term scalability and efficiency.?

2. Complete Automation with Legacy Infrastructure?is fully automated but hosted on VMs and self-hosted databases. Re-engineering is unavoidable but presents an opportunity to modernize the stack during migration.?

3. Partial or No Automation with Legacy Infrastructure?Automation is minimal or non-existent, making this the most challenging state for successful cloud migration. However, it offers a chance to transform the company and fully capitalize on the benefits of cloud technology.?

Expert’s voice:?

Tailoring the migration strategy to each unique case is essential, but also demanding. Companies with extensive experience in this process (e.g., BlueSoft) can efficiently assess infrastructure using custom tools, helping organizations maximize the value of each migrated application and plan the company’s overall target application landscape.?
Platform Engineering is particularly beneficial for larger organizations, as it prevents the need to repeat automation processes for each project. It’s important to note that Platform Engineering, much like cloud migration, is primarily an organizational change. When executed properly, it transforms operating models and strategies, enabling tangible benefits and scalability.?
While each initial state presents its challenges and advantages, all stand to benefit if cloud migration is carried out correctly.?
