bluesign Denim Life Cycle

The bluesign x Soko Chimica Partnership

This spring, we’ve welcomed a new bluesign? System Partner with the Italian chemical supplier: Soko Chimica , a business started three generations ago providing chemical auxiliaries for the textile industry.

This collaboration with Soko Chimica is groundbreaking, as they are pioneers in the chemical industry based in Italy. We believe in the power of collaboration to drive positive change, and by joining forces with Soko Chimica, we are combining our expertise and resources to redefine the standards of sustainability in the denim industry.

DONDUP – Using bluesign? Approved Fabrics from our Partner PureDenim

The Italian fashion brand, DONDUP have committed to using bluesign? Approved fabrics made by our System Partner Manufacturer PureDenim . This signifies a significant leap forward in the fashion industry’s pursuit of a more environmentally friendly future.

PureDenim in addition to constantly studying new technologies through various businesses, have successfully reduced the amount of chemicals and water in the process of making jeans. The company continually seeks to find new opportunities for one of the highest polluting processes in the textile industry. As this mission is so closely aligned to our own, it propels our partnership forward to continue reaching new levels in clean textile production.

DONDUP, celebrated for its unique fusion of Italian artisanship and modern aesthetics, has steadfastly pursued measures to diminish its environmental impact over the years. By opting for bluesign? Approved denim fabrics by PureDenim, the brand reaffirms its dedication to sustainability across all facets of its manufacturing processes.

Madewell Joins as bluesign? System Partner Brand

After nearly a year of selling bluesign? Approved jeans, Madewell became the first U.S. denim brand as a bluesign? System Partner.

Our collaboration began in fall of 2022, when Madewell launched the first denim style crafted with bluesign? Approved ISKO fabric. Madewell then made plans to launch 13 new styles of jeans made with bluesign? Approved materials. Joining as a system partner after that was the next step to further reinforce Madewell’s commitment to sustainable denim production.

About what it means for Madewell to partner up with us as part of their sustainability journey:

  1. Chemical Management: The bluesign? System prioritizes the safe and sustainable utilization of chemicals throughout the production process. This reduces the reliance on hazardous substances and fostering improved safety standards for workers.
  2. Environmental Performance: Madewell's partnership with us demonstrates their dedication to lessening the environmental footprint of their operations. The bluesign? System assesses various aspects like energy and water usage, air emissions, and waste handling. By meeting these criteria, Madewell strives to shrink their ecological impact.
  3. Continuous Improvement: As a bluesign? System Partner, Madewell actively participates in continuous dialogue and collaboration with bluesign to enhance their sustainability efforts. This partnership grants access to valuable expertise, tools, and resources, empowering Madewell to further progress towards its sustainability objectives.

bluesign Joined the Transformer’s Foundation Founders Board

In March last year, our CEO, Daniel Rüfenacht, joined the Founders Board at the Transformers Foundation , a non-profit organization representing a unified voice for the denim industry accelerating more sustainable practices.

This appointment to the Founders Board was a testament to our long-standing dedication to reducing environmental impacts with, now, a renewed focus on the denim supply chain.

The most significant issues in denim manufacturing occur in the dyeing and laundry processes where the highest amounts of water, energy, and chemicals are used. Together with the Transformers Foundation, we continue to aim to link chemical suppliers, textile manufacturers, garment makers, and laundries together with the brands to foster a healthy, responsible, and profitable textile industry.
