Design and Construction in Concert: We’ve worked in the construction industry for years, and it brings a lot of lessons. One thing we learned early on is that projects start faster, progress better and conclude more successfully when construction works hand in hand with design. Befriend your architect we say! Respect, communication and cooperation all get an airing in this article.?

Designing Productive Workspaces: ?Long gone are the days of shoving staff into pokey offices and expecting them to do their best work. Now there is a plethora of research and evidence to show how the business environment affects the humans that work in it. Our Insight describes how important modern office design and layout is. In fact, it’s a great illustration of why we love to work closely with architects, as our combined expertise has to result in the best, most innovative office spaces available.

Brilliant Retail Construction: ?There’s a lot more to building and running a retail space than just throwing up a building and lining it with shelves. First we make sure the shell of the building is secure and meets regulations. We then fit out the space according to the designs we’re given. And those designs are based on a lot of experience, science and research. So yes – there’s a lot more to the creation of the shops we all visit. Sustainability - What We Do On Site: We promised you an Insight that followed up on our Sustainable Construction Methods article. You can find it here. It describes the 3 main practices we put in place to make each site we work on as environmentally friendly as possible. Sustainability is here to stay - we need to nurture it.

What are we working on?

Snap 24/7 Gym in Whitstable Rolled Out

Following on from the incredible fitout we worked on in Fareham, Hampshire, we’re really happy with how the Whitstable gym has turned out. It was handed over and launched on time, and as always, we stuck to budget. That’s something we’re very proud of - you won’t find us adding on costs here and there. As long as the spec remains the same, so does the price.

The project is being added to our portfolio on the website very soon, so you can check out how we transformed the space.

Employee Spotlight – Simon Hughes

We’d like to introduce you to another of our team. In this employee spotlight, we look at a typical day for Simon Hughes, our Office and Administration Manager. The success of any company rests on great administration and all the right numbers – Simon keeps us on track with his thorough and detailed bird’s eye view of BHR’s paperwork. He also handles communications between the team and our suppliers and clients, making sure everyone knows what’s going on, and taking care of purchasing, quotations and contracts. His is a critical role in the business - you can read about Simon’s ‘Day in the Life’ here.

Opportunity Knocks

It was heartening to read an article on the BBC News site a few days after the election that described how ‘Shares in house builders rise on back of Labour win’. Many of the major housebuilding companies saw a jump in their share price as a result of Labour’s plans to make development easier.? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn08yw474q6o

BHR are best known for our commercial projects, but we’d love to get involved in a good-sized housing development.
