So often, the realities of running a business are filled with confusion, overwhelm and a roller coaster of highs and lows as you navigate fluctuating cash flow and constant change in the world of sales and marketing.?

Many of us aim to hit 6-figures in revenue as it feels like a significant milestone that will not only give you the financial reward you work so hard for,? but also validation you are doing it right. And isn’t that what we need on the days when it feels like we are pushing treacle up a hill!

It can be easy to get swept up in the idea of having a successful, 6-figure business and channelling all your energies into what seem to be tried-and-tested methods you might have found on LinkedIn or elsewhere on the Internet.

But I’ll hazard a good bet that the reason you’re here is because either:

a) you feel like you've exhausted all the strategies you’ve found and are nowhere close to achieving 6-figures and you want some insights that will actually work for YOU.

b) you are working with a strategy that seems to be working but at the same time, you’ve started to fall out of love with your business. You are going through the motions feeling stale and uninspired.

Both are frustrating places to be but both lead to the same conclusion: achieving a 6-figure business isn’t about following a one-size fits-all-blueprint, no matter what the gurus selling you their secret formula say.

It’s about finding a clear, simple business growth strategy that aligns with your unique vision, values and strengths.

It’s a journey that requires careful planning, research, adaptability and above all, a clear understanding of what this financial goal represents for you and your business.

It also requires a willingness to persevere, course correct and stay committed to your vision and mission through the inevitable highs and lows of being a successful business owner over the long term.

What is a 6-Figure Business Anyway?
Put simply, a 6-figure business is a business with a turnover of £100k right up to £999,999.

That’s a pretty huge range right?!?
?
Therefore, typically what works to get you to £100k, will likely need to adapt and change as your business grows, usually through diversifying your Offer Strategy and focusing more on your Brand and Visibility Strategy. More on this below!?

Next up, let’s remember that having a 6-figure business does not mean you are automatically taking home 6-figures in your paycheck, it means a turnover of 6-figure gross revenue - not net profit.

A question I ALWAYS ask my clients, whether we are working on getting them to their first 6-figures OR aiming to scale their business to multiple 6-figures and beyond is this:

“What is your magic number?”

This is the number you want to receive through your salary and the money you, yourself earn through your business that you get to enjoy and that fuels your lifestyle.
This is the most important number to be clear on as we need to ensure the strategies we prioritise within your business will give you what you ultimately want, need and deserve to live a rich and fulfilling life.?

That’s why being crystal clear on your numbers is so important.
You must understand?your operating costs, expenses and therefore your profit margin as this is what drives your take-home pay, personal reward and overall business health. We need to know what levers we can pull to quickly grow your revenue and increase your profit.

The good news and something that gets me fired up and jumping out of bed in the morning is…
6-figures is possible for quite literally any business, as long as you are open to scaling and diversifying your services (more on that later!)
The Inner Work vs The Outer Strategy

Don’t be put off by the word ‘strategy’ - I know that you might have felt stung in the past by using strategies that didn’t work for your business, but I am not about to tell you the exact path you are going to take to 6-figures.

When you started your business, you most likely researched your chosen market to understand who your ideal customer was and what services or products they required.

As you start to aim for 6-figures, it’s important to revisit that research or even conduct further market research to identify the unmet needs of your target market and their pain points so you can spot opportunities where your business can add unique value.
Carrying out comprehensive market research helps you tailor your offer to meet real demands and therefore increases your chances of achieving significant revenue.?

Product or Service Optimisation: Meeting Market Demands
What makes your business different from your competitors?

Is it your hands-on approach?

The uniqueness of your product?

Whether your chosen industry is overflowing or fairly niche, you need to make sure you not only stand out from the crowd but that your offer aligns with the current market trends and your ideal customer’s requirements.
Asking for feedback is a simple but effective way to ensure that you can be one step ahead and continue to meet your customer’s needs - but you also need to be willing to innovate to do so.

Look, we can’t talk about aiming for a 6-figure business without getting down and dirty with the numbers! A solid financial plan is the backbone of any successful business. If you haven’t already, it’s time to get comfortable with setting clear financial goals, budgeting and looking ahead i.e. forecasting your financial performance.

Understanding your costs and managing your cash flow effectively will not only prevent financial pitfalls but ensure sustainable growth.
This is a HUGE capability gap for many business owners I meet and it’s vital you up-skill and prioritise this area of your business if you want to sustain your business performance and create a sleek, nimble business you love.?

Branding and Positioning: Building a Strong, Recognisable Brand
We all know that a brand is more than just a logo or a tagline - it’s all about the perception people have of your business.

And remember - if you are the face of your brand, people’s perception of YOU is equally as important.

Yes, it takes hard work, but look around at entrepreneurs or even big corporate brands you admire.

I’ll be willing to bet they all have three things in common: consistent messaging, a strong visual identity and above all, a clear value proposition.
Why? Because effective branding helps you connect with your target audience, builds trust and gives you another way to differentiate yourself from your competitors.

And the wonderful thing about hitting this revenue goal is you are usually in a position to reinvest in your business.
