Blue Skye Construction and Development Participates in Communities in Action: Building a Better America at the White House

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, DC – July 16, 2024 – Blue Skye Construction and Development is proud to announce its participation in the upcoming Communities in Action: Building a Better America event at the White House. This prestigious event highlights the collaborative efforts between the Biden-Harris Administration and local leaders to address critical issues in communities across the nation.

"We are honored to participate in Communities in Action: Building a Better America and are grateful for the Biden-Harris Administration’s continued support," said Scottie Irving, Principal Owner and Founder of Blue Skye. "Partnerships like these are pivotal in forging a future that is not only better and safer but also more equitable for every resident of the District of Columbia."

Blue Skye Construction and Development has been dedicated to improving the Washington, DC community for 18 years, particularly in supporting vulnerable individuals, including those experiencing homelessness. The company focuses on affordable housing and community development, completing 90% of its projects to date.

The Biden-Harris Administration's investments in infrastructure have been pivotal in advancing these efforts. Specifically, the Administration’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act has provided crucial funding and support for local projects that enhance community development and public safety. The $2.4 billion Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funded 55 projects in the District of Columbia. Of the $2.4 billion, over $50 million was allocated to the redevelopment of Hill East for utility work, including the construction of streets and public landscape improvements.

Thanks to the Administration's investments, Blue Skye, in partnership with Donatelli Development, completed the second phase of the Reservation 13 redevelopment in the Capitol Hill area. This strategic initiative included the creation of up to 1,068 residential units, comprising 356 deeply affordable units, 356 middle-income units, and 356 market-rate units. The redevelopment of Reservation 13, a former site of D.C. General Hospital and other social service programs, was a pivotal element in addressing the shortage of affordable housing in the Capitol Hill planning area.

The Hill East Redevelopment project, led by Blue Skye and Donatelli Development, renovated parcels B-1 and B-2, spanning 2.6 acres. This transformative project constructed two seven-story buildings with approximately 500 units and 14,000 square feet of ground-floor retail. The development, strategically located within walking distance of the Stadium-Armory Metro Station, enhanced accessibility for residents. Adhering to strict affordable housing requirements, 30% of the units were designated for affordable housing, with specific provisions for households earning 30% and 60% of the average median income.
