Blue roofs: a fast-growing way to meet stormwater drainage obligations
Axter Ltd | B Corp? certified
A modern, forward-thinking approach to flat roof waterproofing.
We believe in the untapped potential of flat roof spaces to transform our communities and urban environments, from green spaces that enrich local biodiversity to solar panelled roofs that provide energy-bill-free living.??
Flat roofs also have a key role to play in the fight against the effects of climate change, with blue roof systems strengthening the resilience of our infrastructure against extreme weather events. They are one of the fastest-growing ways to meet stormwater drainage obligations on a roofing project.??
In this month’s newsletter, we explain how blue roofs can be used to meet tightening regulatory requirements for controlling stormwater, introduce you to Axter’s in-house blue roof expert, and provide a case study on the systems in use; plus, we’ll update you on some more exciting news about our growing team.?????
Blue roofs – SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems) attenuation systems designed to manage the discharge of rainwater from roofs at a controlled rate – are mitigating the effects of flash flooding and contributing to effective stormwater management strategies in our towns and cities.??
Blue roof solutions are in line with current SuDS best practice, and recently updated legislation and planning requirements.??
“We’re already seeing how key construction projects in the UK are benefiting from this SuDS process, controlling stormwater 'at source', particularly on tight, urban sites, and providing a solution at the top of the SuDS hierarchy for planning requirements,” says Andrew Keer , Axter’s Product Manager, Blue Roof Systems.
