Reminds me of an incident when Md. Fairoze – a young, well-trimmed, white-collared professional came home one hot summer afternoon and introduced himself as working in one of the largest Indian hypermarkets in the Middle East. He then informs that he came to say hello to us!
With a puzzled look on my face, I was left wondering who was I speaking to? How come he knows me and I don’t??
In a jiffy, Md. Fairoze acknowledges that he expected me to be puzzled and goes on to explain that our family would definitely know him since he used to be working in the neighborhood Kirana store before he left to the Gulf for better career opportunities!
Wow, that was something BIG to digest indeed! Since that day, he has remained in my mind!!
Today, when we are under Lockdown, I can’t but help recollect Md. Fairoze and his visit. To me, it is most relevant than ever before.
Yes, the unsung heroes of our own lives, well-being and comforts comes from folks like Md. Fairoze who help us through our daily chores be it at the local Kirana stores, supermarkets or the mall-stores. They are the ones who probably are least recognized and I’m sure there are many people who don’t even look at their faces while shopping – leave along acknowledging them!
Recently I had a couple of other experiences.
First was at a retail store.
A hearing-impaired boy and girl were attending to us. The moment we realized of their disability, we acknowledged their presence and the great challenges they would have overcome to lead such independent lives. They were so elated and happy – more so when our compliments to the Store Manager was also communicated to them directly – in our presence – by the Management!!
The second one involved purchasing a skin cream from one of the super mall-stores. The product was bought – rather hesitantly – on the advice and utmost confidence of a senior sales representative from the beauty products section.
Hesitantly, since this skin allergy on our young one’s hand has been existing for a while now despite continuous treatment from at least a couple of well-known dermatologists! Considering that yet another remedy trial will anyways do no further harm, we did try and, viola, we started noticing visible improvement within a week!
The very next week, we went back to the store to thank and acknowledge her. Once again, the smile and glow we could bring to her life is the least we can do to them – but the immense satisfaction it gives us is bliss and can only be experienced…not expressed!!
NOW IS THE TIME TO ACKNOWLEDGE ALL THE SO-CALLED LESSER-SKILLED or BLUE-COLLARED WORKERS – THOUGH THEY ARE THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER HUMAN BEINGS IN THE WORLD TODAY!
There are numerous examples like the above – be it with me or you as well. Yes, BLUE IS THE NEW WHITE. Period.
Request you to share your own experiences in the comments section below! For sure, we could inspire someone else – who would do better than us!!
So, please go ahead and share your experiences.

4 年Hi Ravi. Congrats! I just read your article. Let me start with the title first.? "Blue is the new white",foxes me and intoxicated me! It also aroused my curiosity. Nobody can get a better title for your message. After reading your article what struck me was your " humanity". I believe that is the answer to all the ills in the world today. If only all of us raise our human consciousness we don't need scriptures to tell us what is right and wrong and the commandments of do's and don't's! And I am sure the world will be a better place. I think you are one of the few I know who have the creative juices flowing with the heart, which is a winning combination! Keep writing, keep writing, you've got yourself an admirer! All the very best and lots of love and best wishes.

4 年Hi Ravi,? Share similar thoughts.? I recently had to do a solo drive (because of the lock down) to my native place from Kochi,? to deliver medicines to my mother-in-law. I couldn't but notice the small provision and vegetable store owners who have kept their shops open from 9am to 5 pm for the odd client who might come out to buy some stuff.? In fact,? at one place I stopped my car and went and bought fruits. Bought a little more than what I needed and while paying for it,? acknowledged and appreciated the shopkeeper for his role in this corona fight. He, and like him many others,? despite knowing the risk of exposure, is keeping their shops open to support their community. Salute these unsung heroes, who ensure that we get our essentials despite the lockdown.?
