Blue Monday: an opportunity to reflect on our New Year Resolutions.
As we navigate through the third Monday of January, commonly known as Blue Monday, let's take a moment to reflect on our New Year resolutions.?
1. Reflect on your resolutions
Understanding the significance of your resolutions can provide valuable insights.
Ask yourself why your resolutions still matter. What values do they align with, and how have they shaped your journey so far??
Reflect on the intentions behind your goals: what has helped you stay on track, and what obstacles have you encountered??
2. Acknowledge your emotions
Feeling frustrated or sad about not achieving your goals is totally normal. Acknowledge these emotions without judgment. Embracing your feelings allows for a deeper understanding of the challenges you may face.?
Setbacks are not failures but opportunities for growth.
3. Break down your goals
One effective strategy for achieving resolutions is to break them down into smaller, manageable steps.?
If, for example, your goal is to lose 10kg this year, consider weekly actions. What can you do each week to contribute to this larger objective? As a quick tip, consider meal planning your meals, walking more, and staying hydrated into your weekly routine.?
Take it one step at a time.

4. Differentiate your goals
Consider the difference between result-driven goals and process-driven goals. A result-driven goal, like losing 10kg, is a specific outcome. On the other hand, a process-driven goal, such as going to the gym two times a week, focuses on the steps taken to achieve that outcome. Balancing result-driven and process-driven goals allows you to celebrate small victories along the way while staying focused on the bigger picture.
5. Reflect weekly
Set aside time each week to reflect on your progress. Are you moving closer to your goals? What adjustments can you make to stay on track? Regular reflection helps you stay focused and adapt your strategies as needed.
6. Practice self-care
One thing we often forget in the hustle of our daily lifes is to practice self-care. Be kind to yourself, celebrate small victories, and express gratitude for the progress made. Incorporate mindfulness activities into your routine, such as meditation or journaling, to foster self-awareness and reduce stress. Taking care of your mental and emotional well-being is an integral part of any journey towards self-improvement.
7. You are at choice, always
You are in control of your choices. Every decision you make contributes to your journey. Challenges and setbacks are normal. It is outside our comfort zones where we find growth. Your ability to choose how you respond to setbacks is a powerful tool in achieving long-term success.
As we navigate blue Monday and the challenges it may bring, let's approach our resolutions with renewed energy. Embrace the journey, acknowledge your efforts, and practice self-compassion.?
Wishing you a resilient and inspired blue Monday.
Stay tuned, Wilma Pols
