In the Netflix movie Leave The World Behind, most scenes are strikingly dominated by the color blue for calm acceptance to ignore reality.
"Did I give you one of these? All you guys look the same in those blue shirts.", the young lady said handing out conference materials.
Looking around and seeing over 400 blue shirts at the Boston Microsoft Conference, my first thought was to laugh it off thinking "Good thing we're not all women wearing the same dress."
Except the comment was suddenly jolting.
Why did Microsoft suddenly start wearing blue shirts after defeating IBM (literally known as Big Blue)?
Why did Google want all the links and websites blue while spouting their "Do no evil" mantra?
On the Boston walking tour, I saw the USS Constitution. The guide explained that below deck was painted dark red so no one could see the blood during battle to get scared and would keep fighting.
I came home and immediately changed our colors to dark red for courage and commitment, rather than the questionable blue message of trust.
25 years later, I still wonder why you would want to blend in with everyone else?
