This Blows My Mind!

For almost two decades now, I’ve been coaching and teaching clients how the six pillars of lifestyle dramatically impact every part of our health and well-being.
?
Those pillars are nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and social connection. There is ample research to prove that implementing positive lifestyle habits in each domain can significantly improve our health, reduce chronic diseases, and enhance our sense of well-being.
?
However, a more recent body of research is exploding, documenting that those same lifestyle changes can improve our brain metabolism health (a fancy way of saying the way our brains process energy and function). In other words, healthy lifestyle interventions will lead to a better-functioning brain.
?
On the plane home from CA last week, I was reading Keep Sharp: Build a Better Brain by Sanjay Gupta, MD. Although it’s easy to be pessimistic about finding a cure for dementia or Alzheimer’s, Dr. Gupta’s research and experience prove we absolutely can slow the progression, possibly prevent and even prolong better functioning for those already diagnosed with cognitive impairment by improving our daily habits.
?
Then, while on my treadmill yesterday, I came across a YouTube Video of @MelRobbins interviewing @ChristopherPalmer. I have the joy of knowing Chris personally, having worked for him as a volunteer at the McClean Coaching Conference in Executive Leadership and Healthcare. So, naturally, I watched the video.

Dr. Palmer is a brilliant psychiatrist, professor at Harvard Medical School, and researcher specializing in mental health. He has been studying the impact of lifestyle intervention vs. medicine in treating all divergent brain disorders, such as ADHD, anxiety, dyslexia, and autism. He unequivocally believes that addressing the six pillars of lifestyle medicine will improve and sometimes even eliminate the symptoms of those challenges.

I don’t know about you, but all this blows my mind! Taking great care of yourself is essential to being physically healthy and feeling great; it is also imperative to keep our brains healthy!

So what do you think? Does this information motivate you more than ever to keep moving, eat well, get restorative quality sleep, manage stress, and nurture positive relationships?
?
It sure does me! If this topic intrigues you, please watch the video (you don't have to have ADHD to benefit) and read the book . It will change how you think and care for your body and brain!
