Blowing up your career can feel risky… But it’s worth it!
?
A 2021 麦肯锡 study on women in the workplace concluded that “Women are even more burned out than they were a year ago, and the gap in burnout between women and men has almost doubled. In the past year, 1 in 3 women has considered leaving the workforce or downshifting their careers—a significant increase from 1 in 4 in the first few months of the pandemic.”
?
Why not take the risk and beat burnout?
?
There are a million reasons why not to: finances, starting over, loyalty to a boss or organization, safety and security, loss of flexibility, and more.
?
But do you know what is more important than any of those things??
?YOU! Your quality of life. Living a sustainable life you find fulfilling and brings you joy.
?
Tiana S. Clark, The Audacious Commander , a corporate leader turned women empowerment coach and dear friend of mine, recently shared with me her story of blowing up her career and how she dealt with the risks.
?Tiana has always had the audacity to make her own way, defy the odds, and follow her inner wisdom. She grew up orphaned in the murder capital of the world and harnessed her innate power to manifest her trajectory. She’s an award-winning filmmaker for the tween web series, Soci Circle, and a United States Air Force #veteran who was awarded Airman of the Year during her service. She’s also a mom of four, corporate leader, entrepreneur, creator & executive producer, non-profit founder, and more.
?
When I asked Tiana when she knew it was time to blow up her career, she said,?“The feeling came in 2017, but I wasn't sure how I could replace my salary, so I sat on it for essentially 4 more years.”

It wasn’t until the pandemic hit and she lost her grandmother, who was a second mom to her both before and after her own mother passed, that she felt the time was right.
?
“I just felt I needed to be more present in MY LIFE. My work has always been so all-consuming that I rarely had time for introspection. Once I actually took that time, however, I felt it in every fiber of my being and I couldn't turn back from what I discovered.”
?
After sitting on this feeling for years,?she finally felt the risk was worth taking.
?
Why?
?
“Freedom. Clarity. Breath. I'm awakened now, whereas I might've been sleepwalking before.?And that might surprise some people to hear because I was at the height of my career, so it begs the question, ‘How can you be in hustle mode, kicking ass at work, and sleepwalking at the same time?’ But,?when you are in hustle mode for ‘things’ that are out of alignment with your core purpose, you're still sleeping, just sleep-running, instead of sleepwalking.”
?
Are you sleepwalking or sleep-running??
?
If you’re ready to be awakened, my book Go! from Fast Company Press, coming September 5th, 2023, is made for you! Get your preview of Go!?here.

1 年Thank you, Lisa Thee (Polvi) for sharing our interview. I recommend to grab a copy of Lisa's book, GO!, to explore more on this topic! In my experience, it is critical to get clear on your WHY. If you're chasing titles and yet are unhappy, ask yourself, "WHY?" And, be honest with yourself. If it's for financial reasons, that's okay, just name that. If it's for "status" reasons, name that. And, then take a step back and ask yourself, what's really important to ME? For example, how much do I care about titles "really?" And why? Or, do I care what people think about me, based on my title? Maybe what I'm really after is scalable impact. How might I get more scalable impact and be happy in the process? .... and so on. But, have that conversation with yourself and get to the root of your why! ?? Now, grab the book, so you can get the strategies for living a sustainable and fulfilling life that brings you joy! www.lisathee.com/go
