Circular diplomacy: from connecting to acting

As we move into the spring season, we at Circular Change are fully embracing?the concept of circular diplomacy.?This concept that emerged as a result of over seven years of dedicated work in the field of circular economy by our team. We have collaborated with numerous stakeholders in different countries to co-create national circular economy roadmaps and have contributed to more than 500 events across the globe. Our experience of chairing the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform in Brussels for six years provided valuable insights into the work of organizations focused on circular transformation.

Recognizing the importance of knowledge transfer and the value of our network, we proposed the concept of circular diplomacy at the?annual ECESP conference in Brussels?in February 2023. We believe that by promoting circular diplomacy, we can facilitate the exchange of best practices, build stronger partnerships, and foster innovation in the circular economy. At that meeting, we discovered our "circular manifesto" - an inspiring keynote address from former EU commissioner and co-chair of the IRP, as well as the Chair of the Honorary Board of Circular Change - Dr. Janez Poto?nik?(Read it).

Our activities continue, including active engagement in the process of the?Global roadmap for an inclusive circular economy?initiative led by?Chatham House.?This initiative seeks to advance the circular economy agenda and build stronger partnerships across the globe.

The Handbook of the Circular Economy, De Gruyter – Ladeja Godina Ko?ir among distinguished authors

The?book?takes a unique look at this rapidly expanding field of activity from the perspectives of global thought leaders, world-leading researchers, and industry. The book explores?transitional activities and considers a transformed Circular Economy in three distinct sections. It includes also first-hand ideas and opinions from some of the biggest names in?our21st-century Circular Economy landscape. We are super proud of being among authors next to circular economy legends such as Walter r. Stahel, Ken Webster, Kate Raworth, and many others.

Chapter Zero Slovenia was officially launched?

In April 2023, the Chapter Zero Slovenia opening ceremony was attended by diverse national and international stakeholders, representing both public and private organizations. Our team also participated in the event, with our director,Ladeja Godina Ko?ir, being a member of the working group. Chapter Zero is a network that comprises national climate chapters and the Climate Governance Initiative, which aims to facilitate and expedite the measures required to address climate change. The network encompasses over 50 countries currently, with additional national initiatives under development.?Read more.

Green Week at the House of EU in Ljubljana

In April 2023, our executive director attended the event at the House of the EU in Ljubljana, where the circular economy was discussed together with the younger generation. They explored the possibility of creating a symbiotic relationship between the economy and the environment.Questions were raised such as "Could the economy be good for the environment and people?," and "How could we recognize green deception?" After the discussion, they embarked on a project to create useful accessories from waste materials.?

This project also kick-started that year's?Green week?at the House of the EU, which was an exciting event that showcased the importance of sustainability.

Kosovo Launches national circular economy roadmap, outlining priority sectors and key driving forces for circular transition

In March 2023, we successfully launched the Circular economy roadmap Kosovo in Pri?tina. The document shows 4 priority sectors and 2 key driving forces that were mapped as those with the most potential for the circular transition. It isthe 5th national circular economy roadmap in a row for our team and the 2nd roadmap that we did with the Deloitte team. Overall, the document is a result of a collaboration of many stakeholders that contributed with their knowledge, time, and ideas.?Read more.?

PSLifestyle: Alpha version available for testing in Slovenia

Circular Change is one of 16 partners in the PSLifestyle project. One of the project’s goals is to develop an online application PSL with a carbon footprint calculator and 100 concreteactions to lower our carbon footprint. In February and March 2023, the alpha version has become available for testing for the visitors of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2023 in Planica.?Read more.

Project EFFECTIVE: Showcasing Sustainable Innovation with Bionylon Prototypes and Circular Economy Principles at the Final Event

In February 2023, we organized the final event for project EFFECTIVE and presented prototypes from bionylon. The result shows an important innovation that is based on the principles of the circular economy and bioeconomy. A new demonstration line has been set up at the company AquafilSLO in Ljubljana. This puts Slovenia on the international map of circular penetrators.?Read more.?

• ISPIM CONFERENCE?– Join us at the ISPIM Conference on Innovation and Circular Economy from the 4th?to the 7th?of June 2023 in Ljubljana. On 7th?June, Ladeja G. Ko?ir will also moderate the?workshop on the topic of sustainable living?with Jerneja Jug Jer?e and?Aljo?a Bagola.
