I have lost count of the number of times I have cried because I felt like the work I was doing was too much while the results were nowhere to be seen.
I have lost count of the number of times I wanted to give up
I have lost count of the number of times I wanted to disappear
The pain I had to go through and still go through? to achieve the success I desire is immense
Why am I telling you this?
So you can be prepared for what’s coming in the journey to achieving your goals
We all want to achieve the goals we set, we have wishes, desires, new year resolutions?
The big problem is not even setting goals; it is achieving these goals.?
Only 8% of people who set goals are actually able to achieve them.?
This is the most important element of goal setting that this 8% know
This important element is what will determine if you will achieve your goals or not. This element is PAIN.
I am going to reveal to you how to anticipate and embrace this pain.?
When I started lifting weights, I asked a friend of mine about the kind of pain I will have to endure. I am not new to fitness, just new to lifting.
And she told me, “walking will be hard the first week, but please start slowly and progress, and make sure you have rest days in between.”
I was prepared, I started, and the next day I couldn’t sit without an ‘awww’ but I knew this would happen.
The funny thing is, I am now addicted to the pain. After getting used to lifting, I no longer felt the pain.
Now I seek it, I am increasing load and doing more reps. The pain is sweet.
The big thing here is I anticipated the pain. Even though what I felt vs what I was told I would feel were wildly different, the fact that I knew it would happen helped a lot.
It’s the same with goal setting.
It is amazing to focus on all the great benefits you will get from achieving your goals but what is most crucial is that you are aware of the price you have to pay to achieve these goals.
Here is an example of someone who wants to lose weight
I want to lose 20 kilos by the end of August so my body is summer ready
I will look so good in. Bikini?
I am hitting the gym tomorrow
Oh yeahhhh?
So I will limit my calorie intake
Zero sugary foods

No fast foods
Gym everyday for 40 minutes minimum
This sounds great, doesn’t it?
So she starts with the gym, two weeks later, the motivation is dead and only 1 kilo has been lost. The pain is almost unbearable. Yesterday, she couldn’t last 40 minutes.
So what happened here?
She had all the “what success would look like,” but she lacked “the price I have to pay.”
The crucial missing element is
PAIN!
Am I willing to pay this price?
Create a similar benefits vs pain table
If the answer is not a HELL YEAH! You don’t need to waste your time on it.
So my friend, next time you are excited about a new goal, please ask yourself what the cost is.
Take a piece of paper and write down a list of the benefits of achieving the goal and the price you have to pay.
Anticipating pain, helps you better deal with the actual pain.
What I can promise is, if you choose to embrace the pain, it’s all worth it.
The pain is worth it.
The pain becomes sweet.
You will start to look for it.
Cheers! It gets better, but only if you do the work.
Ps: And if you really want to succeed…
