The Blood Donation Camp
Today, I will rewind few years from now wherein I wasn't an HR by profession but was a die-hard marketing professional. I started my career as a marketing executive in a retail industry amd within a very small span got an opportunity to oversee the entire marketing activities of a very well-known computer and electronic store in Ahmedabad i. e. Care office equipment ltd. Popularly known as Care, was a main dealer for many computers brand for the entire state and so I was privileged to get a very good exposure during my tenure over there.?
Initially, when I joined there I was a fresher and was having very limited portfolio of work in my hand. But, suddenly one day due to some contingent circumstances my senior left the company and I was pushed to take all the responsibilities of my senior's work area in my hand overnight. It wasn't that tough, thanks to the management team of Care who supported me. As I was quite new and was a fresher, the only thing difficult was to achieve the trust from my organization and also handle the work in the most matured way.?
One day, while brain storming I got an idea to arrange a CSR activity which will in return provide me a piece of press release in all the newspapers and will enhance our presence in the market. I rushed to my senior then amd shared my idea of organizing a Blood Donation camp wherein all the employees could volunteer for the same. Though, he didn't find it so fascinating he gave me an approval and also informed me that he would check my management skills as well in that camp. I was more excited and nervous at the same time for my first ever independent project.?
The preparation before the day was very tiring and I then realized that completing MBA assignments were so damn easy than handling a real life projects! Searching for an authentic NGO to collaborate with, managing food for volunteer blood donars, taking permission from municipal corporation to park the blood donation van were some of the things I was encountering for first time in my life. But, as it say, where there's a will, there's a way!?I got everything done and the day was here.?
On the day of the camp when the blood donation van came to our office, my nervousness was overpowered by my happiness of atleast clearing the first step. After this, my major concern was to have maximum blood donars and their health. To everyone's surprise I motivated 188 out of 500 employees in being a voluntary blood donar for this camp. Also, those who didn't join this had become my connection and from this day I was known to each of the employee of the organization. I also gave a small momentum for all the donars as a token of appreciation from my own salary. We had many laughs that day, many emotions and I got many friends for lifetime.?
The camp was very successful, press releases were grabbing attention and I got a special place and trust in my management team's mind. Well, while taking a trip down this memory lane, I was thinking that was those initiatives to convince my colleagues and motivating them, making the day memorable for them with a small momentum a seed of my HR instinct. My peopleperson approach was getting shaped for my HR career? What ever it is, I always have and will be in love with my employees!?
