One of the more important films I worked on as it changed the way people thought about/bought things: Blood Diamond shot by DP Eduardo Serra. It was an epic shoot. They built an entire village on the east coast of South Africa and in Mozambique. I went to set several times to check out colours and to speak with Eduardo, VFX and the Director, Ed Zwick: everyone was terrified of him. I thought he was great and had no problems. He taught me about ‘gloaming’ as a colour feeling. Eduardo went on to do a Harry Potter film but unfortunately became sick after that. I coloured an average of 20,000ft of film a day with synced audio through the first Aaton Keylink system that Jean-Pierre Beauviala invented. He came out to Joburg to set it up hoping we would not have too many issues as it was still beta. I remember DiCaprio hitting on all the women!
