Blogging! How many words is enough?
This question gets asked many times - let's jump straight into it (briefly).
In the past writing 300 to 500 words was enough to get you on the 1st page of Google, that then went up to 1200 words as a standard. Those days are now long gone and nowadays writing 1500+ words to 2500+ words is a minimum and you can go up to 4000 to 6000+ words.
The important thing however is making all this text easy to digest - you can do this by breaking the text down into smaller chunks and further separating it by using lots of images and videos (original content fares better than stock content but use what you can).
It is also advisable to create anchor links for your long-form content (it makes it easier for your readers to navigate through the many paragraphs) - you can use those all-important images as Header-Images for each paragraph or chapter.
Suggest you consider creating a list to give your readers a breakdown of highlighted items (bullet points like many tabloids do today) - it helps readers to digest what they are about to read.
You may also wish to use the highlights to create an infographic which would be displayed alongside your long-form content (this would be downloaded by your readers and shared on social media).
When it comes to SEO, stuffing keywords is no longer recommended and can in fact damage your credibility - Google also frowns upon this practice and will simply ignore your page - try instead to write genuinely and organically (when writing about one subject, the keywords will take care of themselves and will appear enough times without being forced).
Consider adding 2-3 internal links and several external links (all must be highly relevant to your content).
There are many factors for success in writing for the web today and this really is just the tip of the iceberg - Google has a comprehensive list of 100+ items to consider for success.
Use these small important points for now and you should start to see some positive results around organic growth in your analytics.
Hope this helps somewhat - would love to hear your results after 90 days.
