BLOG: What does it mean to lead Project Leaders? (2)
Chapter 2: Jointly working Project leaders are Group of people or a Team?
All working on Project/Program management area knows, that this role is rather acting individually, having own project portfolio and project teams to lead. Currently we are 14 members in Baltics each of us having own projects and programs we work on with delivery teams. The questions which might be raised is "Are we a TEAM"?
Just to remind, what differs Group of people from the Team:
Looking over basic criteria, there is a mixed feeling - as you can pick items from both parts. But for me first of all what matters is how you feel: part of the TEAM or not. Maybe sense of belonging might depends on very many items when people care about each other, despite they work individually or together.
What is Your view? - Please share in comments ??
What about You, leading PM teams with own portfolio? Do You feel as a Team or Group of people/experts working individually? What works for You not to split apart within individual project?

2 个月I think, it is as you as the team defines it and as the manager of the team guides it. It could very well happen that team of project managers meet once a week share some stuff and after 3-4 months find that it is not worth to come as we do not have common projects. But in your case you are definitely a team.

3 个月I would argue that if you have a common vision and mechanisms for shared problem solving - then its a team. From your description, It seems you are more like a group, rather than a team.. in my books, a characteristic of a team is interdependence — members rely on each other to achieve shared outcomes.
