Blog #43 The time has come –2023 expected Wimby installations!
Wimbledon Championships…
The best time of year for tennis fans, who want to relax and join in with the competitive fun.
And with this year’s main draw kicking off on the 3rd of July,
I couldn’t resist dedicating this week’s blog to the iconic championships.
So, what installations can be expected this year?
Let me tell you!
1.??????Extensive floral installations based on the Club colours.
Every year Martyn Falconer, head gardener, creates a botanical heaven over the 42-acre site.
From floral arches in the village, to perfectly planted garden lawns and wall bays around the grounds.
The legendary English country garden backdrop is iconic and is the perfect installation to accompany the championships.
2.??????Inspirational graphics with a motivational message.
Now turning into the walls of Wimbledon,
Their annual use of creative imagery and passionate quotes really inspires and connects with the audience.
They really are the perfect choice to feed history, inspire and motivate the masses.
3.??????Artistic installations with a sustainable theme.
In 2021, artist Yinka Ilori developed an inspired narrative art piece illustrating the importance of community for one of Wimbledon’s terraces.
His mural embodied positivity and flooded the terrace with a real pop of colour.
The icing on the cake, or should I say cream on the strawberries…..the mural was repurposed to a charity when the championship ended!
I expect to see more unique pieces like this in the coming days.
So, what do you think?
What displays and installations can you see being in this year’s championships?
Should Wimbledon showcase more artists in their grounds?
