BLOG # 2: 7 tips to transform your table into a party table

Planning a dinner soon and like to surprise your guests with a beautifully decorated table?

Yes?! We are pleased to offer you 7 tips to amaze your guests.

Tip #1: Everything starts with color

Everyone is sensitive to color. One person is more aware of it than another, but we all "experience" color. Sometimes we prefer calm colors and sometimes we prefer flamboyant colors. It all depends on the occasion, our mood and personality. The selected color sets the mood par excellence for your table. In short, it is the beginning and the end of every table setting.

Tip #2: Table linen is part of a party

Table linen is part of a beautiful table setting. So, be sure to choose a nice tablecloth, a runner or a combination thereof. An important tip we want to share, when laying the tablecloth or the runner, they should hang 30 to 40 centimeters. In addition, we recommend that each guest, ideally, has 70 to 80 centimeters of table width so that everyone can sit comfortably. It is a good idea to consider the number of courses on your menu. The more courses, the more cutlery, and the more space each guest needs. To briefly return to the importance of color, we would like to point out that the color of the tablecloth is very decisive because this, of course, represents a large area. Keep in mind that black increases the strength of the colors and white decreases the strength of the colors.

Tip #3: Essential = a napkin

The use of paper napkins on a dinner table is absolutely “not done”. Use starched linen or cotton napkins. We know from experience that polyester napkins should be avoided. These are not pleasant to use for the guests. Yes, color was the beginning and end of everything and that is why we are reverting to the subject. Make sure the color of your napkins matches the color of the tablecloth or runners. I often use the napkins as a decoration element by knotting them in different ways. You can also get more creative: stick the napkin in a napkin ring with the guest's name, present a flower in the napkin, ...

Tip #4: A charger plate and bread plate make the difference

Charger plates on your table create a festive look. They give your decorated table that little bit extra. And again, a colored charger plate can also bring color to your table and thus the right look. A small tip: charger plates are removed after the main course.  In contrast to a charger plate that may stand out, a bread plate does not. It is not a decorative element, but functional. It needs to be there, but it should not draw attention or get in the way.

Tip #5: Feel welcome: name cards and menu

The use of place cards really makes guests feel welcome. They make your table even more festive and personal. Moreover, you, as the host create a quiet atmosphere at dinner because you have your hands free and can avoid a lot of chaos and lengthy discussions. You arrange the place cards before the guests arrive, which means that you must give this aspect thorough advance consideration. Forming a well thought-of table plan will ensure a good atmosphere at the dinner. An extra tip: put people with the same interests or activities together. In addition, your dinner table needs menu cards. They complete your table and are also functional. The guests can follow which courses will (still) come.

Tip #6: Flowers cannot be absent!

In my opinion, a table without flowers is not a festive table. Beautiful flowers, whether dried or fresh, complete your table. We know from experience that flowers often represent a considerable cost, but they are essential to a beautiful table. A tip we can give here is that small vases with flowers are often more price friendly. By arranging them at different heights, you can create playfulness in your table. It is particularly important that the flowers are not too high, so that guests sitting across from each other can comfortably talk to each other and eye contact is not prevented.

“I must have flowers, always and always!”

Tip #7: And last but not least… Candlelight!

A table is only complete with candles on it. It always gives your table that "instant glow". Customers often ask me whether this is also necessary in daylight. My answer is always a definite "yes!" Candles always create atmosphere and invite guests to sit down at the table. Yes, if you ask me, candles really give the finishing touch to any dinner table!
