Blockchain: Transparency in the public sphere
The handshake, it's coming back in a big way!

Blockchain: Transparency in the public sphere

We have a very interesting dynamic at play for those who are following. Blockchain, as I understand it, is an immutable digital ledger. Or more simply an incredibly secure way of recording stuff. Now these two sides I'm conflating are just me thinking out loud, they might not be related. I just find it interesting.

1) Here is a link to an article talking about NY's vaccination passports (https://bit.ly/2PGXIt1) deployed on a blockchain system. On the one hand, there are a lot of scientifically credible perspectives both supporting and opposing mandatory vaccination.  On the other, it's fantastic to see a government embrace open-source frameworks dedicated to transparency.

2) There's been an explosion of investment in cryptocurrencies, also deployed on blockchain technology. On the one hand, there's a lot of credible perspectives justifying the value of various coins and pointing out significant flaws in the systems that regulate them. On the other, it's exciting to see a global community of businesses and consumers embrace a truly unbiased commerce system.

What's interesting is that while NY is rolling out this platform - an explicit endorsement - federal governments around the world, including the US Government, are looking at ways to ban many if not all cryptocurrencies. So here's my conflation - purely for the purpose of discussion. If we trust blockchain to store and verify private health data, why not deploy it to regulate our currency too?

Said another way, if we can deploy a blockchain system to keep our citizens accountable for following public health procedures; why not deploy the same system to keep our regulators accountable for managing our currency?
