Blockchain and cryptocurrencies ... time for a Nigerian leapfrog
Andrew S Nevin, PhD
Brainomics – what is the economic value of better brain health?
Last month, I had the chance to talk with Onyi Sunday at CNBC Africa about blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Given the current explosion in Bitcoin price, these are topics certainly on everyone's mind, so I thought worth posting the interview.
A few key points to note:
- Blockchain and cryptocurrencies are not the same thing. Blockchain is a technology with many uses, with cryptocurrencies being just one.
- PwC Nigeria believes that perhaps the best use case for Blockchain today is for the land registry, beginning in Lagos ... I had a chance to talk about this idea extensively in the interview
- Cryptocurrencies are here to stay. And while not simple, the regulators, banks, and other financial sector players need to understand how cryptocurrencies are going to affect the financial landscape
