BLOCKBOARD WITH MDF FACES

Blockboard with MDF (or HDF) faces is one of the most requested panels in furniture industry.

Appreciated for its bending strength and screw-hold ability (especially with spruce core), suitable for the production of high-quality and long-lasting furniture and furnishings. It is commonly used for shutters (also big size), shoulders, shelves and cabinet-making.

The MDF faces are perfect to be lacquered and vanished or pantographed.

While most blockboard manufacturers worldwide produce a 3 ply construction (3 layers), in Italy it has been developed in the 5-ply construction, with two veneers (usually poplar or ceiba rotary cut veneer) on each side under MDF/HDF faces, in order to achieve the best surface stability and flatness.

5 layers blockboard is a little more expensive than 3 layers but it guarantee better performances, especially if you want to laminate the panel using thin HPL.

So to choose the right blockboard with MDF faces you should consider:

• thickness of MDF/HDF : with thick MDF (6 mm or more), probabily 3 layers are enough
• HPL faces : if you want cover the faces with HPL, especially if thin (0.58 mm or less), 5 layers is better
