Block Your Time

Block Your Time

Welcome to my latest tip for making your dash count. I hope you’ve been enjoying the series so far. Today I want to share a tip that has really made a huge difference for me. This tip has helped me to have a balanced life.I’ve learned that it’s not long hours that equal results, it’s concentrated short hours. My tip is to block your time and block them into a small number of hours.

One of the ways you can block your time is to have a business block. This is not the time for you to do your emails or make phone calls. This is the time you to really push for that one thing. Your biggest objective that is going to help you move forward with your business. For me, I block out about four hours, say from 9am to 1pm. If there’s someone out there that it’s almost impossible to be successful, or to start a business, it’s not. You can do far more in four hours than you can do in 12 hours.

Concentrated hours

If you look at it, if you’re sitting there for 12 hours trying to get as much work done as possible, it’s too long. You’re going to get tired, you’re going to get distracted. There is so much else that is going on. So I prefer, for the time to really work for me, and I’ve done a lot of research on this, the shorter concentrated hours. I do four hours of maximum concentrated work. This is when I work on the objectives that are moving me forward towards achieving my goal. The objectives that are eventually going to give me the results that I’m looking for in my business.

The whole idea of time blocking is really a way of managing, viewing and using your time more effectively. If you learn to block your time for even three or four hours, it will feel more achievable than 12 long hours. There is a lot of talk out there right now about shorter working weeks, books talk about a 20 hour work week. This is genuinely possible and really that is how I get my work done. I take my four hours, they’re blocked and I protect them.

Protect your time

You need to protect those four hours or whatever number of hours you choose. Protect them like your life depends on it, because it really does. If you’re trying to achieve this big goal, then your life depends on that goal. Protect that time, make sure it’s consistent, make sure you have no distractions. If you block your time you can truly try to move your objective forward. This will add the results that you desire in your life or your business.

Success will come, it’s right there. You can have it just like anybody else. You just have to have some tips that are going to help you do this. If you have the concentrated work hours, guess what? You can make time to make your dash count. Make time with your family, with your friends, because you have to have those blocks of time too.

Focus

This is Carolyne Onkoba with Making Your Dash Count. I’m helping people move from hustle to harmony and profitability. If you usually hustle for 12 or 16 hours and would like to give this a shot, why not try four hours of concentrated work a day instead? Block your time and protect it like your life depends on it. That time should be when you have the highest creativity, and your thoughts can be one hundred percent focused on that one thing. That objective, that goal that is going to move you closer to the results you’re looking for in life, and in business.

Be sure to check back next week when I’ll be giving you my next tip and it’s going to be all about productivity. We’ll talk about how to use the rest of your day, outside of those concentrated work hours.

Great article, Carolyne! If we look at things the right way, nobody is really productive for 12 hours. Not even Fortune 500 CEOs.
