Bridging the Gap: Innovation in the Safety Net for Black Communities
As we approach the milestone of 60 years of Medicaid, HT4M is proud to champion innovation across the safety net healthcare system. This includes working with Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), community clinics, and safety-net hospitals, which play a crucial role in providing care to underserved populations—particularly within Black communities.
Black Americans are disproportionately represented among Medicaid enrollees and face greater challenges accessing quality healthcare. FQHCs and safety-net hospitals, as the backbone of the healthcare system for low-income and uninsured populations, are often the primary care providers for Black individuals and families. They offer comprehensive, affordable services to those who might otherwise go without care, helping to address the vast health inequities that persist due to social determinants like income, education, and access to resources.
At HT4M, we recognize the importance of these centers in delivering culturally competent care to Black communities and other vulnerable populations, and we are committed to fostering innovations that enhance their ability to serve effectively. Our initiatives focus on:
The Road to 60: As we celebrate nearly six decades of Medicaid, we are more committed than ever to ensuring that the safety net continues to evolve to meet the needs of Black communities and other underserved populations. If you’re an innovator in healthcare technology or service delivery within the safety net, we invite you to join us. Together, we can transform the landscape of healthcare and create a more equitable future for all.

Advancing Health Equity for Black Communities: Our Southern Strategy
HT4M recognizes the urgent need for Medicaid innovation in the Southern United States, a region with a significant population of Black Americans who face longstanding disparities in healthcare access and outcomes. The South has some of the highest concentrations of Black communities, and systemic barriers—rooted in racial and economic inequality—have made healthcare access particularly challenging for these populations.
In fact, Black Americans in Southern states are disproportionately impacted by chronic diseases, lack of access to preventative care, and limited healthcare resources. The region's higher uninsured rates and restrictive Medicaid policies compound these challenges. Our Southern Strategy is designed to address these unique issues by focusing on:
?HT4M is committed to building a more equitable healthcare system in the South that addresses the historic and persistent disparities facing Black Americans. We invite you to join us in this critical effort—your leadership and insights are essential to driving meaningful change for millions of Medicaid beneficiaries.
