BLK BIZ SUMMIT Promotes Communal Marketing During Black Business Month

Black Business Month has been something that I have personally celebrated for years. In many ways it is one to the highlights of my year as I work to empower Black owned businesses and encourage more focus on marketing.
I've been quoted many times saying, "most businesses fail because no one knew about them. Not because the business wasn't great quality or didn't have a valuable product, but if we don't know to spend with you then our money goes elsewhere." I still believe that is true to this day. We see a lot businesses with great ideas but there never seems to be enough emphasis on telling people how great that business is.
This is one of the main reasons that I teach marketing classes. Showing people multiple ways to accomplish a task that suits their personality, branding, and overall mission of bringing home a pocket full of coins instead of stones, is a mission of mine. Since changing companies from Lady Bizness to Give It To The People? the journey of "what's different" has been posed. How can I differentiate myself from, essentially, myself?
My solution is Communal Marketing. Communal marketing is?the type of marketing in which companies invite their consumer to be a part of the company's campaign for advertising and marketing. This concept is actually not new at all. Black people have always participated in Communal Marketing, otherwise know as word of mouth or the grapevine. We are our best marketers because we tend to tell the truth. When Black people like something there is a 99% chance that they will tell someone else. That 1% that is left over is only there because they didn't tell the person they just show up to the establishment with ther person they were going to tell. (insert smile)
So, why is this so important during National Black Business Month? In my opinion, its important every day. Sometimes we need a push or a cause to remind people how important Black business is to the neighborhood, to the city, county, state, country, and the entire world. August is a great time to set Black businesses up for Back to School and the Holiday Season. Summer months can be fical depending on what a company is selling, but demand can always be high if we share the message.
I figured the best way to show you how to do it for your Black business or a business you support was a show and tell method for what we are doing with the BLK BIZ SUMMIT. /
The BLK BIZ SUMMIT will be held Friday, August 26 from 10 am - 4 pm at the Durham Tech Small Business Center in the Chesterfield Building located at 701 West Main Street in Durham, NC. August is National Black Business Month. It was founded in August of
2004 by Historian John William Templeton and engineer Frederick E. Jordan Sr. Black-owned businesses are encouraged to celebrate their diversity, legacy, and importance in the national, regional, and local economy.
