A large majority of people are at risk of?developing cold sores with most adults carrying the virus, even if they've never had any symptoms. Whilst they do suck, they are typically temporary lasting maybe 5 days at the most. There are also remedies we can use to soothe the itching, bruising and pain caused in the early stages and we can adapt our lifestyle temporarily to cope with it e.g., using camouflage creams or avoiding public places if we're embarrassed about them looking unsightly and worries about people staring at us.
If you are bothered about having them because of the way they look, you’re not alone. Approximately 1% of the adult population has a scar, blemish, or deformity which severely affects their ability to lead a normal life, but more startling perhaps, is that at least a quarter of men and a third of women report some degree of dissatisfaction with their overall appearance.?
One of the misconceptions is that those who cope well with a visible facial difference are the ones who have minor differences such as a pimple, rash or blister. This isn’t necessarily the case. Often the ones who are most affected, where it’s difficult to camouflage or hide their visible difference with e.g., make-up or clothing, can often cope better with the negative reactions from others.?
If you have a permanent or recurring temporary visible difference that affects your ability to lead a normal life, please find more details here about what you can do to increase your resilience to cope better: www.candidchameleons.com
