The Blister

The Blister

The Blister. Pop it, Drain it, Leave it?

What do you do?

I find often this can depend on the environment I am in.

In my time I have run marathons in the Sahara desert. 6 to be precise.

As each day closes, in preparation for the following day's racing, I check my feet for blisters. If I’ve been unfortunate enough to have developed a few - there is really only one solution.

To have the top skin removed from the blister.

I know this sound painful. It is!

If just one little single grain of sand enters said blister, it may become infected - causing more pain and possibly an end to my race. Day in day out. 6 marathons in 7 days can be brutally halted by one grain of sand.

AND believe me, there are lots of grains of sand in the Sahara.

According to Dr Google. 1.504 septillion grains. (I didn't even know what a septillion was before writing this, did you?)

.....

So here’s the thing.

I want you to "imagine a blister is just like one of your work and life stressors. The stressor, niggles away, irritating, entering every thought. You attempt to push it to the sidelines but the thought keeps coming back.? It's rubbing, sore and inflamed."

This is where resilience comes in.

Resilience is all about bouncing back. Bouncing back from stressors and adversity. Knowing it takes courage. Knowing it may be painful. Knowing something better is on the other side.?

The blister, the difficult thought, needs to be captured and replaced. AND it is possible to do this.

When you remove the blister you develop resilience. You get stronger. You purposefully choose a route to cope. It’s not always comfortable but actually, the growth comes from the healing process.

Again I say - you get stronger. You develop an ability to overcome. It starts with deciding to remove your blister.

The relief comes in knowing that you are stronger for your blister. That you overcame and will do next time - and maybe just a little bit quicker.

THAT'S RESILIENCE. Overcoming stressors and adversity - and growing through the experience. Bouncing back and bouncing forward.

So this week - what's your blister?

What's holding you back? What's worrying you? What's standing in the way of your growth journey. Face your blister.

Now is the time to remove your blister. Face it and grow. You will become stronger for it.

See you next week.

Cara - blister-free at the moment.?

Very good analogy Cara. Personally, the only thing holding me back is the list of things I still have to do before I can get onto other things.
