Blissful Life After Graduation

Blissful Life After Graduation

It's been two years since I graduated, and I feel fortunate to have entered the corporate world with a strong resume, bolstered by multiple internships and a wealth of communication and leadership experiences. These factors allowed me to start my corporate career on a solid footing. However, the transition from student life to the professional world came with a set of unexpected realizations and challenges.

Post-Graduation Realizations

1. Financial Expectations

I thought I would be “rich” immediately after securing a stable full-time job. While the pay is good, the financial responsibilities have increased exponentially. As a student, my primary financial concern was tuition for the next semester. Now, I find myself planning for my first home, starting and supporting a family, and other significant financial commitments.

2. Stress Levels

I expected to be stress-free without homework and assignments. While it's true that I no longer have academic tasks, my evenings are often filled with activities that I would rather not be doing. The stress has shifted rather than disappeared.

3. Social Life

I imagined spending more quality time with friends post-graduation. In reality, moving to a new city has made socializing more challenging. I’m slowly losing touch with my college buddies, and unlike in college, there aren't as many platforms to meet new people.

Strategies for a Winning and Exciting Mindset

To navigate these challenges and maintain a positive outlook, I’ve incorporated several practices into my daily life:

  1. Intentional Time Management: I no longer “go with the flow” in the evenings. Instead, I plan my time purposefully.
  2. Focus on Core Pillars: I concentrate on four pillars of success—Health, Finance, Spirituality, and Relationships. I educate myself in these areas through books, podcasts, and networking.
  3. Daily Exercise and Meditation: I workout and meditate every day. I’ve also taken up singing and learning guitar as hobbies.
  4. Healthy Eating: I invest in fresh food and vegetables, continually setting new health goals.
  5. Side Hustles: I explore different platforms and ventures to find a good fit for a side hustle.
  6. Relationship Building: I am proactively learning about healthy relationships in preparation for starting my own family.
  7. Skill Development: I spend one hour daily learning new technical skills to enhance my value in my current career.

To all the young professionals out there, I’d love to hear about your experiences and how you’ve been managing your personal and professional lives at the beginning of your careers. Let’s share our journeys and learn from each other.

It was insightful to learn how you're meaningfully balancing your professional and personal lives. Your philosophy of 'not going with the flow' is intriguing, and I can absolutely relate to it. However, sometimes, it's challenging to stay focused on what we want to do if we do not surround ourselves with a crowd that shares our values. Look forward to reading more of your articles on life after graduation. Thanks!
