The Bliss Of Solitude

Humans have a complicated relationship with themselves and the pandemic demands social distancing, quarantine, and isolation. It is not the only epidemic we are facing right now. Craving for social interaction, experience discomfort when alone and extended isolation can have irreparable effects on the mind. What happens in the brain when you are alone? We become our own worst enemy. What makes you an interesting person? The mindset with an open and broad perspective and the most important is listening to yourself and creating a personal connection. You need to broaden your horizon and shift your perspective to learn something new in celebration of being alone but not lonely! Ending up alone is a very powerful fear and that fear is such a powerful motivator to think is there any benefits to being alone?

Before the 1970s, the typical office arrangement was desk lined in a row, and then came the cubicle and people in cubicles long for privacy and get less work done. And the rest is history, unfortunately, it is a gloomy history. The growing open office trend follows pack more and more, cheaper and cheaper in less and less space. Cubicles don’t work a human does and most people hate open offices. The thinking goes that the employees will be happier and more productive in wide-open common spaces, rather than sitting at their desks separated by thick office walls. It seems like noise is running our lives from every text, TV remote, tweet, and push notifications to Snapchat stories, Instagram and Facebook feed.

They told us that this connectivity is a good thing, so many of us rarely have any time alone. Solitude is critical for self-discovery and practices it with what suits you. Some of the most interesting findings by Olivet Nazarene University, 90% are happy with private offices, 79% are happy with open floor with private offices, 74% are happy with open floor with assigned space, 73% with open floor no assigned place and last but not the least 67% says that they are happy with cubicles.

Here Are Some Benefits To See How Powerful Being Happy Alone Can Be.

Cluttered Space Cluttered Mind- Employees with open views were much more likely to stay healthy and less fatigued. A study in 2003, says that they also performed better on tests of mental function and memory recall. All of us even outgoing people enjoy more their solitude. They are likely to speak more than to listen and usually express themselves better in conversations. In short, they also think that they exploit their creativity in an open office environment.

You Are More Productive When Alone- The research says most productivity occurs when you are working alone. Sitting in a group in the same area yielded some expected findings, such as you are bound to stray off-topic, maximize distractions which will slow you down. On the other hand, being alone gives you the ability to trust your gut and think clearly for your actions.

You Are More Confident- Solitude can help develop your confidence and decision making skills, as you are free from people’s desires and opinions. Enjoying your own company will boost your productivity and efficiency since you will feel more responsible for the work you put forth. Learning to enjoy time alone may be hard to do, but over time you will find yourself with ease.

Stop Working Overtime- Too much noise causes high blood pressure, difficulty in concentrating, and sleep problems. Cubicles flimsy walls do little to dampen sound and your ability to understand emotions in yourself gets little day by day. As a result, you have to work more and the less effective and productive you become with time. Losing just one hour of sleep per night will cause a level of cognitive degradation. Take advantage of this freedom of being alone and happy, but that doesn’t mean sequestering yourself from the world. When you are alone you are free to pursue the project and make no compromises about how you do it.

You Will Cherish Every Interaction- Time alone are important so is time spent with others. Most people develop a renewed sense of gratitude for what comes into their life when they learn how to talk to themselves. Most people have to experience some type of tragedy before they begin to understand that alone time lets you see people in a whole new light.

Fit as a Fiddle- Sharing an office raises the chances of getting more health problems and at this point in the pandemic most of us have spent far more time alone than we ever thought we would. Enjoying your own company in the private office will boost your attendance and competence.

Avoid Mindless Consumption- It’s said that when you are alone you have an incredible opportunity to take some time to do nothing at all. In a world that’s often filled with expectations, you don’t realize that when you are too focused, you are locking yourself in a box. This is the time to reaffirm and walk away from work once in a while and have some alone time.

Everyone benefits from self-reflection. The stigma of doing things alone when made for two is still seen as socially unacceptable. To optimize your energy and time for a more successful and happier life, take the opportunity to enjoy your time alone.
