Bliss in not just a Windows XP wallpaper: Movie Bliss 2021 - Article #8 in the 10 article series on movie Bliss
I again start with a dialogue in the movie Bliss (2021):
Salma Hayek: Bliss is not a feeling. It’s not a place.
Bliss is a state of mind that can only be achieved by understanding the contrast with the opposite state of mind.
But the proof is in the pudding. Please meet my pudding, Dr. Wittle (Owen Wilson's character in the movie).
When I heard this dialogue in the movie Bliss (2021), I got reminded of that famous windows XP wallpaper that my generation, the millennials used back in the year 2001-2 till a stable version of windows came up in Windows 7 as a desktop operating system.
Every time I started the computer, this haunting background giving me the feeling of bliss would come up and remind me that my life is filled with bliss with serene feelings while I surfed my windows and everything else in it including the newly introduced worldwideweb www. May be you the reader remember that feeling as that to look at the bliss the moment you open the computer or just look at it just to feel calm and blissful.
Those times have changed, we have now a recent windows 11 or may be even at the cusp of windows 12 or you have upgraded yourself to the MacOS and a Mac. Times change and it appears as if life is not as blissful as it used to be back in those days. two decades ago.
This dialogue from the movie Bliss above reminded me of the feeling of being blissful in those days and being not as blissful today. May be you the reader feel that way too, or you are already upgraded without the need to remember it or may be you never had to encounter the haunting image of the wallpaper "Bliss". I am still haunted by it though, when I bought a new phone a few years ago, the first crisp image wallpaper I wanted to put on that phone was the desktop "Bliss". I still use it sometimes if I am not using the blissful image of my newly born child mostly, which has replaced the original bliss with the bliss of an innocent child.
All in all, what I am trying to get across is that bliss is certainly not a place or a feeling. It is a state of feeling understood by understanding the contrast of things.
