"Blinking"? Minds

"Blinking" Minds

Blinking Minds!!! What an unusual title. A common use of the word “blinking” is always associated with optics (eyes, stars, led, flashing lights.. etc.). All boils down to the power of vision, a precious-gift that we may only appreciate enough if we could see through the eyes of a blind man; a blind man whose physical world is blacken forever.

If one assumes that an adult blinks an average of 20 blinks a minute with a blink speed of one-tenth of a second, one would have his/her eyes closed about ~4% of their waking time.

Thanks Saeed Mubarak - an interesting post - I am not quite sure what it was aiming at, compared to most of your great posts. One point I would add is that with Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), the eye position and blink are a major factor in adjusting the thought patterns, or 're-programing' the brain. Keep them coming!

It is my Sunday. My day of rest, my time for prayer reflection and a time to read Saeed’s post. You can not “blink” your way through his reflections. These post require thought in order to appreciate the thought and new perspective. I am a little behind on my Saeed post as life got in the way of my time of reflection. Blink. I honestly judge the article by its title and thought it would be about how we make split decisions; similar to Gladwell’s book. Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Malcolm Gladwell But Saeed’s post was more about bi-sight, from the eyes and from the mind. If anyone takes this for granted it is me. As I was reading the article, I was instructed to look at an image. I was told that the image would only appear not to move at first glance. I starred, the image did not move. I looked longer, and the image was just not moving. I thought what kind of trick is Saeed playing on me. Then I laughed. I forgot I was blind in one eye and that may be the reason why the image did not move. I was born with vision in only one eye. And it seems fitting as my ancestral name of Sullivan, means tribe of “One Eye”. Never having had two eyes, I am unaware of the differences. Although it sounds like I have the best of all worlds, one eye is dark (I must be in constant reflection), while the other is blinking. This may get me voted to Super Hero status. The relationship about what we perceive through an eye (I am not saying eyes since I have one that works) and what we perceive in our minds is intriguing. How many times have we seen something we “thought we saw.” Thought we saw…a statement that tries to tie together the two modes of sight. I wish I could take back the things I said too early because of “thought I saw”. Closing my eyes, reflecting and understanding will be goal to get my eyes and mind to come to an agreement; before I pass judgment or an opinion. Thanks Saeed, great article.

Saee, I don't remember I've blinked more than I did while reading your article, ha ha. Another very thoughtful and genuine article of yours. How about this, I use my blinking minds to imagine peace, success, wealth, winning, love, and other positive things before waking up and face reality. The question is if I train my mind to be positive, how likely it will impact me? Very likely I assume, but how long will it take to do so, is it dependent from one person to another and why? Is it brain cells or is it something to do with influence from society, culture and behavior that controls change? I look forward to hearing your next post. Cheers

Dear Saeed, again you have written a masterful analogy that bridges our everyday world and our inner self. God gave us wonderful bodies and fascinating minds. We should keep both in balance and good working order. Thanks for an enjoyable read. Respect and regards, Robert
