Blind Loyalty

Blind Loyalty

She used to think loyalty was a virtue and it was the glue that bound her leadership. So she stayed in situations where common sense and instinct nudged her to walk away. But she resisted, determined to stand by a leader she believed in, convinced that supporting his vision was the right thing to do.

This leader had a way of inspiring people. She ignored the small doubts, rationalizing them as bumps on the road to greatness. Even when decisions were made that didn’t quite sit right, she told herself it was all part of a grand plan she couldn’t fully see. Her loyalty became a blindfold, keeping her from acknowledging the uncomfortable truths that were becoming harder to ignore.

As time passed, those small doubts grew. She started to see that the vision she was so dedicated to wasn’t as flawless as she had imagined. The leader she admired began to seem more distant, less believable, his decisions increasingly questionable. But she had invested so much—time, energy, belief—that walking away felt like betrayal, both to him and to herself. She convinced herself that if she just held on a little longer, things would improve. They didn’t.

Eventually, she had to face the truth: her loyalty had kept her in a place she no longer belonged.

Her understanding of what makes a great leader had evolved. It wasn’t just about a grand vision; it was about integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to course-correct when needed.

She learned that loyalty should never come at the cost of her own values or well-being. The experience taught her that a truly great leader doesn't forget your existence and value—they take your input and keep you informed in the decisions made that align with the whole team mission and vision, even when those decisions are tough.

She no longer sees loyalty as a blind commitment but as a mutual bond that must be continuously nurtured.
