The Blessings Of Love

Valentine’s Day owes its existence to a mosaic of both legend and tradition; its roots go back centuries—with histories that vary from country to country. History aside, Valentine’s Day pays homage to the power of love. Why bother? To celebrate the devotion spent nurturing it. In romantic and business relationships alike, love flourishes only when we build and maintain long-term, healthy relationships. 

I was blessed to grow up surrounded by one such enduring partnership. My parents met in Milwaukee, Wisconsin 71.5 years’ ago and will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary this summer. They placed tremendous value on creating a lifelong partnership…on cultivating each other’s personal well-being. Over the decades, Mom and Dad created an unbreakable alliance. And as a result, my home (my world) became an impenetrable fortress of security. 

Love extends beyond family, clearly—and includes not only the causes we hold dear but our communities as well. Thomas Aquinas (a scholar of Aristotle) aptly described love as an activity: “to will the good of another”. He understood that humans are motivated to see others succeed in life. In fact, humanity’s greatest uniting force, I feel, is its capacity for love—its affection, friendship, altruism, loyalty, honesty, and compassion. These values inspire me to reach out, to connect on that level through Talent Platform Solutions. Developing and appreciating strong business relationships ensures that we, in fact, make a difference…that we leave an indelible mark on the world!

So, this Valentine’s Day, let’s take comfort in the acts of love all around us. Perhaps it’s the way your niece finds unbridled joy making virtual Valentines for her classmates… Or the way your best friend left in your car a bouquet of (stale) long-stemmed chocolate chip cookies. It may even be the favorite pot roast your mom will lovingly make your dad (for over 70 years). Love blesses the universe in magical, serendipitous ways.
