The Blessing of Adversity
In life no-one is immune to adverse circumstances. If you have not experienced adversity let me assure you in advance that:YOU WILL EXPERIENCE ADVERSITY-period. Do rest assured on that one. The question is not whether you will experience it or not BUT the question is how will you respond to adversity when you finally experience it.
Will you react or will you respond to it. These may sound similar but they are not. To react to adversity it means you didn't even anticipate such to happen to you therefore how you respond to it is by panicking, being nervous, emotional, depressed, thinking your life has come to an end. However responding to adversity means you anticipated it, you thought through it, you have measured the extent of such an adverse circumstance and has totally taken charge of how you interprete it and how you respond to it.
Some Adverse circumstances that people experience:
Loss of a loved one
Loss of a job
Life threatening disease
You or your spouse are involved in a car accident and have been declared paralysed
Going through a divorce
Businesses going bankrupt
You or your loved one imprisoned
The above are some of adverse circumstances that are happening to people every single day. The question is what do you do?
I find comfort in knowing that I have God who carries my burdens for me. God assured us friends that in life you will have TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS but take heart for He has overcome the world. This is comforting friends. James one of the man that were mentored by the great man that everlived had this to say about adversity: Count it all joy my brothers whenever you experience trials of may kinds for your faith has to be tested in order for it to persevere and perseverance must finish its work so you may be mature and complete; lacking nothing. Wow very profound.
How about Peter the man that was very close to this great leader of all leaders. Peter had this about adversity: Just like gold gets to be subjected under extreme fire to purify it so should your faith be subjected under extreme fire(adversity) for it to be purified. Interesting.
What about a man that opposed christianity, a man who ambushed christians in numbers but was later miraculously converted into a christian. But He was so zealous in his faith that He became a great leader in the early church and wrote most books of the new testament. Paul; He had this to say about adversity: God makes everything to work together (including adversity) for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purposes.
The above examples just show you that adversity doesnt happen to you because you have sinned against God and God is punishing you. Adversity is a way of life and God allows it in order to bring you back into His loving arms. You need that adversity to be propelled to your future. Its advesity that propelled the little awkward farm boy named David into the great king of israel. It is adversity that propelled a mere son of a hebrew slave named Moses into a deliverer for the great nation of israel.
Its adversity and timidity that propelled a mere small boy named Timothy into a church leader.
it is adversity that propelled Joseph into a prime minister of Egypt, Adversity propelled Nelson Mandela into a great leader of the 21st century.
Adversity is good friends. We must all embrace it and try and look into it for the blessing that may be hidden in it. This should be our attitudes friends. My prayer for you is this: may God give you new eyes to see the blessing in your adversity.
