Bless the Mets

The New York Mets got some much needed divine support recently when former World Series star slugger Art Shamsky met with an all-star lineup of rabbis and priests to talk shop and celebrate the ongoing positive relations between Catholics and Jews at the New York Board of Rabbis annual dinner honoring Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan.
Shamsky, who is Jewish, knows something about miracles, having played for the World Series Champion Mets in 1969, and managing the Modi'in Miracle of the Israel Baseball League in 2007. He is also the only player in Major League history to hit three home runs in a game in which he was not in the starting lineup. He hit a fourth consecutive home run as a pinch hitter in the next game. His his bat from that day is on display in Baseball's Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

Greenberg, Director of Public Affairs at the Center for Interreligious Understanding.
