??Blastland: The Survivors??

I was not the only dog who survived. There were other dogs in the neighboring enclosures. All of them were of different breeds and colors. After a while we were organized into small groups and trained. The training took place daily. We were glad to train as we could spend more time together and share our thoughts and worries. We had all lost our friends and masters but still hoped to find them.??

During the classes, we were trained to search for artifacts,

Most often those would be related to electrical devices. Why they were so important to the scientists, we didn't know.

Then we were given special suits called Blastsafe and we got used to wearing them. They were quite heavy. We were being prepared to go to the surface.

Each day of training brought that moment closer.

And here it came, we all waited for it with excitement! What is this new world like?! That was the major question all were interested in.

We were divided into smaller groups; each group had a dog and a mentor. My job was to find artifacts and bring them to the attention of my mentor. His name was Jack. Jack is a very strong and brave man. As I later found out, he was the one who pulled me out of the deep hole I fell into.

We became good partners. He called me once and then that nickname attached to me forever: Blastlander. And that, I suppose, became my official name. I liked it somehow. Even on my special suit I got a proud sticker with Blastlander written on it.

During the day we traveled long distances, found a lot of useful things. And carried them back to the lab.

From time to time, being on the surface, we would bark in our own dog language, thus letting us vice versa know that everything was fine with us and with our mentors. We called it 'the Bark Walkie-Talkie.'

Tired but happy, we returned to our new underground home. The Lab.
