The Blame Game -- What actually happened to Why you Lost Power in Texas!

Who is to Blame ???

S0, FIRST what Happen?

There were multiple reasons why this happened to you, and our government is not taking ownership of the problem.

The following reasons you lost power and why it took so long to restore power:

1)     The government did not mandate that electric generating plants winterize their generating plants.

a)      Wind-generated plants froze and therefore stopped putting energy into the grid;

b)     The gas generated plants, the gas wellheads froze and not enough gas to run the gas turbines, and water froze which is necessary to cool the plant, therefore, stop putting energy into the grid; 

c)       Coal generated plants water froze which is required to cool the plant, therefore, stop putting energy into the grid; 

d)     Nuclear-generated plants water froze, which is necessary to cool the plant, therefore, stop putting energy into the grid; 

2)     The combination of loss from these different generated plants resulted in a 40% reduction in energy into the Texas Electricity grid while demand (because of the cold weather) we Experienced in Feburay caused in balance in the electricity grid. ERCOT had to balance life coming into the grid and energy being consumed by users. Therefore, ERCOT order rolling blackout to match what was going into the grid and what is going out.

3)     Demand got so high, and unbalanced energy in the grid cause complete blackouts, which were not part of the controlled rolling blackouts.

The following reason power cannot be quickly be restored:

1)     You cannot put online all the generating plants because they have to be incrementally put-on line to balance generation and demand.

2)     Power Lines need to be checked to ensure there is no damage, which is a very labor-intensive effort to get customers back online.

So, Once Again, Who is to Blame ?

Ultimately, the Texas government Licensed the electricity Generating plants to start operating without winterizing their plants.

So, how to prevent this in the future. The government needs to take ownership of this mistake and require all generating plants in Texas to winterize their plants.
