Blame Fixes Nothing

Blame Fixes Nothing

My grandfather established the Welp Hatchery in Bancroft, Iowa, in 1929. He was a courageous, hard-working pioneer who didn't let the beginning of the Great Depression stop him from making a difference around the world where hatched baby chicks were transported to small farms around the Midwest and even as far away as Brazil. The Welp Hatchery is still going strong today. My grandfather continued his success and later opened the Welp Feed Mill. Today, I picked up a framed Welp feed sack from a local framing specialty store. The feed sack is ~70 years old and they weighed 100 pounds then. That would be too heavy for one to lift today. Two weeks ago I picked this up and asked the associate to unwrap it so I could view it before leaving the store. I was shocked to see how bad it looked. I asked the framing manager, what happened to my order? The framing manager blame game had officially began. To start with, the framing manager said the worker who helped me put this together, put wrong codes in the computer which led to an unsatisfactory outcome. Moreover, it was the wrong frame and color, and the matte was the wrong color. And the check at the bottom of the frame was bubbly-looking and was not recessed. The framing manager then proceeded to tell me the following, "If it makes you feel any better, the gal that helped you with your order doesn't work here anymore. And to think she wanted to be the framing manager". Wow, I wasn't expecting to hear all of that! I simply responded to her by saying that blame fixes nothing and people make mistakes all the time. I am happy with the results even though it took an extra two weeks to pick the frame up. I am ok with that because businesses and people are struggling these days. I told her it looked great and she gave me a big smile.

What a great story Josh. I’m glad after all the complications and lack of owning ones actions, that it turned out ok in the long run!
