Bladder Cancer: Urine Test for faster detection
According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a simple and cost-effective urine test can help in the early detection and management of bladder cancer. This test looks for specific mutations in the promoter of the telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) gene in urine samples.?
IARC has developed a droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) assay that detects TERTpm in urine samples (uTERTpm). The uTERTpm biomarker is claimed to be a simple and non-invasive biomarker for screening and early detection, given that it is detectable many years preceding the clinical diagnosis of bladder cancer. The outcomes of two independent clinical studies in France and Iran have been promising.
