Whether you work from home, or office, headset is a great way to increase focus.

There are two types of noise cancellations that headsets can support:

  1. Near-end noise cancellation: This is the noise that the user hears (dog barking, co-workers chatting, music, kids yelling, etc.).
  2. Far-end noise cancellation: This is the noise that the user on the other end hears (bag of chips, keyboard typing, surrounding conversation, etc.).

For near-end, most headsets rely on passive noise cancelation by virtue of the ear cups covering the ears. However, some high-end models will include a hardware chip that will actively work to cancel out the noise (a.k.a. ANC - Active Noise Cancellation).

For far-end, most headsets rely on multiple microphones embedded inside the boom to cancel out the sound that is not coming from user's mouth. However, some high-end models will include an acoustic fence to completely block out surrounding sound.
