“I love having a meaningful voice at the most senior table in the company."

Focus, determination, and a humble spirit are all words that best describe ChenMed’s Chief Marketing Officer, Marke Dickinson. Growing up just outside Philadelphia, Marke graduated with honors from Penn State before moving on to Harvard for dual Masters degrees in Business and Public Policy. Marke’s family roots stem from Guinea in West Africa.

“I am the proud great-great-grandson of Samuel Ruth, born a slave in Beaufort, South Carolina. His mother Leah was born and raised in Guinea (West Africa) prior to her captivity and transport to South Carolina in the 1820s.”

We can only imagine that Marke’s ancestral grandparents would have been proud to see that their grandson is influencing decisions to create a better world. He says, “I love having a meaningful voice at the most senior table in the company. That was my aspiration as a young student of business, and I'm grateful for the opportunity.” He is among leaders who are creating better healthcare opportunities for underserved communities. Although it may not have been an easy road, Marke shares that it is by God’s grace that he is where he is today, “After that, just a lot of hard work with family and friends pushing behind me.”

Since the late ’90s, Marke has led several Marketing teams, including here at ChenMed. This year will mark his 7th year with the company. “As ChenMed's first c-suite marketing leader, when I joined, I focused initially on creating a more comprehensive marketing capability and reimagining our branding. As I reflect on those early days, we've accomplished quite a bit and there's still so much opportunity ahead of us,” says Marke.

One of his greatest achievements here at ChenMed was the launch of our Dedicated Senior Medical Center brand. It was his first assignment on Day 1 at ChenMed. Today, we have more than 70 Dedicated Senior Medical Centers in 11 states, all branded with the pink and magenta heart icon that our patients know and love. It’s now our largest footprint among the ChenMed family of companies.

With this much success, inquiring minds want to know, what was his secret to success? Marke shares this anecdote, “As a college freshman, I had a grad student mentor who gave me a piece of advice that stuck with me: he said, ask yourself what you'd like those who knew you best throughout college to say about you as you're receiving your degree; then, align your behaviors and actions with those sentiments.”
