#BlackFriday 2020 Dalooni’s sales surge 420% on its “Orange Friday” week

Manama —The way consumers shop online has forever changed since the pandemic, according to the UN trade and development body, UNCTAD, as a lot of consumers had started shopping online for the first time this year for safety measures. The” buy online’’ searches increased by 50% in 2020 compared to 2019, almost doubling during the first wave of the pandemic.

The result of the UNCTAD study is based on surveying around 3,700 consumers across nine countries. Purchases across most product categories increased by 6 to 10 percentage points, with the biggest gains found in information and communications technology/electronics and the most active users in cosmetics & personal care. “Our sales in the past week did include a significant number of electronics and home appliances but are not limited to that, as we offer a wide variety of products, and are encouraging local business to join us!” said Hussain Haji, CEO, and co-founder of Dalooni.com

Another interesting change in consumer buying behavior is the radical shift of interest in Sustainable Shopping. According to SEMrush, the impact of online shopping on the environment has risen to 2250% compared to last year, as almost half of the online shopping is eco-friendly and online searches for “shop sustainably” and related terms have grown by an average of over 650% compared to last year.on its first Black Friday involvement, Dalooni reported a 420% rise in transactions in the period between November 26-30, compared to the preceding week. Dalooni dared to go big with discounts that went up to 88% with an extra 10% at checkout. Promising numbers of transactions can be considered as a measurement of success, but it has never been the main focus at Dalooni.

The concept of the platform started out and still is a pledge to help the local community, now even more than ever. It’s the convenient digitalization of small local brands by offering them visibility, and taking care of the logistics from A to Z, which includes the warehouse storing and delivery, not only on a national scale but also to the GCC countries. Even as shops reopen their doors, it may take some time for consumer confidence to return to pre-Covid-19 levels. In a post-pandemic world, the global acceleration of eCommerce underlines the need to ensure that all individuals have access to the opportunities offered by digitalization.
